I had worked for the company for over 2 years and was getting promoted. They did another backround check and I was subsequently fired. Now they have company policy about not hiring with a criminal record. Is this legal in michigan or even the entire US because they are a nation wide company.

The company I'm working for is discontinuing benefits for production agents (call center environment). I hear that floor support will be able to keep their benefits, but they are also production employees. They are not Staff or mgt. Can this be done?

I played by the rules all my life. Graduated with a 3.5 GPA, interned, worked part-time jobs, and applied for HUNDREDS of positions since graduating from college last year -- and haven't even been called in for an interview yet. Not one.

Meanwhile, I know people with criminal records, poor employment records (meaning they were fired several times), worse GPAs from inferior colleges, etc. who have NO problem finding work. It's just not fair!

What can I possibly do to get my career started? I've tried everything: applying online, applying in person, applying by mail, going to several career centers and job fairs, going through staffing firms & temp agencies, talking to relatives and friends, even applying out-of-state dozens of times (in addition to the hundred applications I sent out locally).

i don't like the fit of dress shoes (wingtips etc) and i have to wear a suit sometimes. when i do, i was wondering if anyone thought it would be acceptable/professional to wear some black pumas with a black suit (other color suits matching as well too) I SAW JOHN LEGUIZAMO DO THIS ON ER quite often. He would wear them all the time with dress pants and suits. I am going to be a psychologist, by the way to get an idea of how professional that this would be.

Dear Sir:

I have been at my job many years with at least most of these years working 8 or more hour shifts until the business closes. Recently, new management took over and they changed by schedule and some days in the week they send me home early after only a few hours. I feel that they over hired and there is not enough hours for everyone. And this afftected the schedule that i was used to working for many years. Can a business do this to long term employees, because it does not seem right to change an employee's schedule who has dedicated their life to helping the company. Also, there have been days where they scheduled me to work double shifts, which I have difficulty doing with a herniated disc permanent disability. Is this allowed. And does the Florida Statute 448.01 below state that when I work more than 10 hours in a day that I should receive more than my normal hourly wage for every hour over 10 hours? 448.01 Legal day's work; extra pay.-- (1) Ten hours of labor shall be a legal day's work, and when any person employed to perform manual labor of any kind by the day, week, month or year renders 10 hours of labor, he or she shall be considered to have performed a legal day's work, unless a written contract has been signed by the person so employed and the employer, requiring a less or greater number of hours of labor to be performed daily. (2) Unless such written contract has been made, the person employed shall be entitled to extra pay for all work performed by the requirement of his or her employer in excess of 10 hours' labor daily.

I have been given a months notice by employer, I have since got a new job and they want me to start immediatly. I have never signed a contract with my current employer, I have asked them if I can leave early but they are refusing to let me leave. Do I have to stay until the end of the month, or can I leave early and not be as pusnished for it. Have been advised that becasue I don't have a signed contract I can leave any time I like and don't have to work my notice period.

Please give me your advice or point me in the direction of a website that would be able to help me find the answer.

A co-worker told me that she recently logged into the database, printed out our customer mailing list, and sild it to various list subscribers for her "petty cash fund" since she didn't get a raise increase that she deserved.

What do I do??
Tell a human resource staff member?
Tell other co-workers?
Wish she hadn't told you and not say anything to anyone?!
