In my 10 years of working (and around 10 jobs in that same time frame), I don't recall having shown my exam certificates except in my first job (at 18).
So you may not need them, and just be able to list the results on your CV.
Also, as someone else said - you can just get new certificates, or get the employer to check with some central place.

Yes some do. Also where school leavers are concerned the employers will want to see school reports as a bad report means a bad attitude. If it is quite a while since you passed your exams then employers would more likely just take into account your past work experience and references from past employers

Really depends on the employer - most public sector will want to see them. Private - up to the individual organisation but would expect that the better the company the more likely they are to ask for them. In your situation I would get copies, if at all possible.

Some do. Replacement certificates cost about £30 each and if they are requested and you then have to send off to them a potential employer will loose interest. Send for them asap.

Not necessarily. They may want proof that you passed, in which case they would verify with the issuer of the certificate. If you really need them, you could probably get copies from the issuer.

not really, i conducted a few interviews for a company and was told dont bother to ask.
If they really want to check they can apply for it, most companies understand that people dont keep them.
Besides they dont think that you'd lie as youd get the sack ifthey find out as you would have obtained a contract by deception
