If you interviewed a women for a position in your company and everything was great except that she is very well pregnant. Would you not give her the job that she is capiable of just because she is pregnant?

A client I'm supposed to start with next week said
they are going to run a background check on me as a
formality.

What does a background check by an employment agency
normally entail? Is it a simple check for felonies,
or a credit check, or what? Just curious.

My husband recently graduated from college with his degree in engineering. He has been offered two jobs and is torn between the two and which one to choose.
1st job:
-Full Benefits (medical, dental)
-Starting in management position
-$17 an hour
-I am currently still in school and this job is a half hour away from where we live.

2nd job:
-No Benefits during 1st year probationary hiring
-Federal Government
-Contract with option to renew and possibly become full-time and permanent employee.
-Wage starting at $19-25 dependent upon experience and education
-This job is in another town 4 hours away, which means he will have to relocate to another city. I would follow after I graduate this spring 2007.

I have tried to give him an honest opinion, but can't help but be biased. Education really is the key to success! All these people want to hire him and he is 27 years old.

Hello all just a question for ya. I am currently looking for some work that I can do from home and I am very wary of scams and was curious as to some people who have checked into these businesses especially with say like a "10 dollar" training packet it sounds kind of suspicious to me and I was wondering if any of you have seen this kind of stuff....and if in your experience if it has been legit...I mean do some legit companies charge a small fee for training?

I am just looking for some honest work to make even a couple hundred bucks a month, I don't buy the get rich quick stuff and I am wary of starting my own business type of thing...I am looking for more of a job opportunity than a business.

Any tips or advice would be awesome!

Thanks a bunch--Jammie Girl.

Please answer if you know anything about immigration. I have a friend who is not a legal permanent resident or a US citizen and only has a tourist visa. His main motive is to learn English better but wants to work in the meantime. Even if the job is a volunteer job he wants to work for something to do. So is it illegal for an employer to have him working as a volunteer? And are small random jobs like mowing lawns for pay actually considered something that you need a work permit for?

When an interviewer asks for a referral whose name should I give ... a former co-worker or the person I was reporting to? Should I give the names right away or can I say I'll e-mail the referral info and let the people know I'm giving their names and then send in the info?

I have been looking for a career change, and since hockey is, and has been, such a big part of my life. I thought I would look to corporate sales for NHL organizations. It's not really a career change per-say as I am doing Corporate sales now. I am just not selling season tickets and luxary boxes. I have been doing this for the last eight years and could sell ice to an eskimo if I had to. The problem is that all the job postings for this type of job require a College degree. I never did go to college becuase my natural abilty to sell and market items landed me a great job out of high school. I also wasn't the greatest student so sitting through four more years of school didn't intrest me. I also am in no finicial abilty to go back to school either so that isn't an option for me. Even though I have more experiance than most who would be applying for these jobs, How do I get the powers that be, to consider me with out the piece of paper that says I have an education?

My husband has a good job offer in Honolulu. We have been to Oahu, Maui, and Kaui on vacations many times and absolutely loved it. But I am wondering how I would like to live there. Where on Oahu should we look for housing. We are vegetarians, and practice yoga.
Thanks so much!

As much as you may hate that, you ARE judged by the way you speak and write. When I read what people write here and see all the misspellings, grammar mistakes, and punctuation errors it indicates to me that the person who wrote it is not really very intelligent. Is that wrong?

It is assumed that when you graduate from high school you should know how to spell and write.

There are very few jobs where no writing is required. Imagine these people writing business letters to clients, associates, vendors, and so on.

Imagine them writing contracts, putting together a presentation to be shown to a potential customer.

Imagine them having to write a report for their bosses.

If I received a report that was so pitifully misspelled and had all the grammar and punctuation errors I see on the Internet, I would conclude the person is practically illiterate and I would not have a high opinion of them. I would also not allow them to have any written contact with any customer or vendor
