For example, if I donate $1500 (cost) worth of items to a local high school, is that deductible as a charitable contribrution? (Are high schools "qualified charities"?)

Basically there were two officers with each 50% of shares of an incorporated company and the company could no longer operate due to cash flow. The company had a $7000 balance with a major financial institution as an overdraft protection amount that was granted a year ago. We signed documents, but I am unsure if this was personally guaranteed at the time. My partner is not agreeing to pay off his half of the balance so this amount was sent to a collection agency. The have listed my name and the Incorporated company and stated that "Your credit bureau is being negatively impacted by this non-payment but can still be repaired." I just got this letter today and wondering if anyone can give me some good advice on what I should do. If it is not personally guaranteed can this affect my personal credit history?

I need a little clarification on the following statement from the TreasuryDirect website regarding the EE Bonds: "Paper Series EE Savings Bonds are sold at half face value. The Treasury Department guarantees that new issues of Series EE Bonds will double in value by 20 years from the issue date". Does this mean that if one were to purchase a paper bond, his/her original investment will at least quadruple? For instance, if I were to purchase a $100 EE bond and spend $50 (half face value), it will be worth $200 (double the bond's face value) at its maturity? Also, why are EE bonds sold at their face value on treasury direct? What's the catch in buying paper EE Bonds, which are sold at 50% discount? Thanks in advance.

My husband was released from prison in May 07 and he owes child support. We aren't even together any longer but haven't filed for separation or divorce yet. He had a job for about 2 mos. this summer not making much money. Can I file head of household (its my apartment), married filing separately? And do I need to file with him if he didn't make enough money to file?

Ok, I have been working at Ingles Supermarkets for three years now started as a bagger worked my way to a bookkeeper and now a front end supervisor. I started the front end supervisor job about two months ago. I didnt receive my raise until a month after i complained and told them i wanted retro and the whole nine. I received $85 for a month I called back to the payroll dept and told them it was more than that especially seeing as I had overtime the first 2 week of starting this position. I still havent received it and its been going on another month. OK to top that off I was informed by workers in others districts that the minimum pay went up for my job title in july. I started in September and didnt start at that rate and iam getting paid 2.25 under what im supposed to. How and what would you do to go about getting this crap fixed. Ive talked to my store manager about the retro but he doesnt know that i know th pay for my job is higher and dont know how to approach him.

My husband is a "technical sales representative" for a company. He has a contract with his company that includes a "no-compete" clause if he should quit, he will be paid commission with a monthly draw and he is charged for all expenses, and if he would quit he must pay back any amount he is in the "hole". He and the other saleman have to split all of the branch office expenses. His employer pays up-front but then charges them back for branch office staff salaries, benefits, rent, mileage, office equipment, depreciation, utilities, everything. My husband is going to receive a W-2 as an employee for his draws and then only get to deduct 2% of his expenses. It appears his employer is taking the deductions for the expenses, even though the salespersons are being charged for them. My husband is in the "hole" $67K (commissions-draw/expenses) but we will be paying taxes on income of $48K even though his expenses outweight his income. Could someone explain if his employer is right?
