The 4 year old house we have a contract on tested for high radon levels in the finished basement. I read about it and coming from a family with a high rate of cancer it makes me very nervous. Even if we have it fixed I feel as though I will be too scared to ever spend time down there. The beautiful finished basement was why we were buying the house in the first place. Any advice or personal experience with radon? Thanks!

I'm going to be 33 in a few days and I'm trying to get my future a little more secure. I went to the bank the other day and talked to the fiancial guy and he told me about a mutual fund called Kaufmann fund. I'm extremely stupid when it comes to stocks, bonds, funds, and everything inbetween so I didn't understand anything he was telling me. I guess my question is this. Is there a book for dummies someone can recommend I should read to learn terms and the best plan of attack for someone in my fiancial sitution and age and learn how to make the best of my retirement choices and money? Or should I speak with someone else that can help me and dumb it down but not take advantage of me as well?

Hello. I work in insurance. Although I have 2 and a half years experience my current employers still only pay me £13k, and considering I live in a 2 bedroom house and my take home pay is £900 i'm left with virtually nothing each month after bills.

So i'm starting a new job on 3rd Dec, doing the same thing but for £15k. Another couple of people from my current office have left to work for this company, and now one of them has come back to this employer saying how bad the other company were, and how they have a huge backlog, and that everyone is really unfriendly.

This guy is lovely and easy to get on with so if he's asked to come back he mustve been desperate.

I'm worried that i'm not going to like it at this new job. But I can't come back as i've just got a mortgage and can't afford the repayments on £13k.

What should I do?

Purchasing a condo....They say get up to $7500 help in closing cost with one of their lenders. (wachovia). I inturned went to a Broker, who happens to be a friend, he got me Pre-approved with Wachovia. I turn in my PreApproval Letter, and they tell me I cant get the $7500 help in closing cost because I went through a broker, who went through Wachovia.

I dont get it, I am financing with Wachovia, but the developer is trying to tell me its not the same. They never specified whom i had to broker the deal with, they just mention to finance with Wachovia or George Mason and gave me point of contacts at these two lenders. So are they in the wrong or am i ?

Well, I've recently left my job due to illness, but before then I was off sick for quite some time.

At first I had actual sick notes from my doctor, but after that I didn't. Now I know I got paid whilst I had the sick notes, but I think I have been paid after then too..
As I said, I've now left the job, but I'm worrying that they will ask for the money they paid me back as obviously I had to live off that during the time I was off (and now also), so I was wondering, do they have the right to ask for the money back or since they chose to pay me whilst I didn't have sick notes, do I reserve the right to keep it? (Even though it's already gone on food, rent, bills etc.)

Thanks to anyone who helps me, I'm getting sleepless nights with worrying about going into debt so any help is appreciated =)

I want to buy this great town home that my fiance and I have totally fallen in love with, originally listed for $370k. So far they have offered us $50k back in incentive money. We understand this isn't enough off in this stinky market. We believe we can negotiate them down the closing costs ($15k) as well as the first two years of HOA ($8k). Can we do better? Should we hire a buyers agent to help? I'm a rather good negotiator, as is my father.

FYI, this is located in West Boynton Beach, Florida

I'm graduating with a B.S in May in a Graphic design related major. How will I find an entry level job when all of them want you to have like 3 years of experience at minimum? I can't get said experience if no one is willing to hire fresh out of school...I'm sure some of you out there have jumped over this hurdle?
