I live in the country on 20 acres (about 40 minutes) from a mid-size city. I'd like to sell my home. The issue is my house is appraised at $500K (and that's our asking price) and it seems there is little interest from buyers since it's so far removed from the city. Does anyone have any insight as to what we can do to sell it? Work with large companies who bring in VP's from outside the state and are looking for a new home maybe?

Hi. As stated in a previous question, I'm 20 going on 21 and currently debt free. My car has been paid for, I have no kids/no bills. I make about $36,000/year and I'm interested in purchasing a home within the next few years or at least before I'm 30. Since homes are such a major investment, I'd like to lower my mortgage or completely pay it off as quickly as possible so my other expenses won't be as much of a worry. So, I plan on saving $100,000 for down payment while staying with my parents. I already have around $20K saved up.

I figure if I put $100K down on a $160K home, I could get a loan for $60K resulting in a much lower mortgage payment. Is it really as cut and dry as I am making it out to be or is there more to this? Are there drawbacks/benefits from a large down payment? I've talked to my parents about this, but I'd like to get other opinions.

Also, what are some ways I can increase/invest the money that I'm saving, aside from interest gained in bank account?

We have a high balance on some high interest rate credit cards. We own our home...I am wondering if there is any tips or info on refinancing and including our credit card debt into the refinance or debt consolidation. I don't know much about it. How much is normal to be charged for these things? What is a good trustworhy business to go through? What are my options? Am I just going to get myself into deeper debt?

For example, I am a self-confessed chocoholic, especially Cadburys, but I hate the fact that they exploit the countries supplying the cocoa. I used to shop at Gap, but discovered years ago that they use child labour - and were recently found to still be employing children. I have just watched a documentary about Coca cola and found out it had ties with Nazi Germany, employed questionable practices with regard to hiring of ethnic minorities, also has ties with child labour and so on. And due to the vicious, murderous nature of the diamond industry, I will never wear diamonds again.

I never intended to be a kaftan-wearing, tree-hugging "ethical consumer", but it looks LIKELY that almost every big corporation out there is, at best, horribly exploiting somebody much weaker than themselves. At worst, it is killing them.

ANyone out there feel where I am coming from? Can I go out and buy a packet of chewing gum without funding some oppressive, violent regime?

I'm in financial ruin and I think my only and last option is to refinance my home loan. I need the extra money to catch up on bills after changing jobs and unexpected medical expenses. (I didn't have insurance for 6 months from changing jobs and then I was sick and had big bills) I am about to lose my home if I don't do something quick. I believe I've exhausted all other options. You opionion and ideas would be great. Thanks

J. R. Mullins, the sole director and shareholder of the Food Stores of South Carolina, Inc. (FSSC), opened two Sav-A-Lot grocery stores in Myrtle Beach. He then established another corporation, Food Stores of Greenville (FSG), and opened a Sav-A-Lot store in the Greenville community. Mullins was also FSG’s sole shareholder and director. He instructed FSG’s vice president to place Sav-A-Lot advertisements with the Greenville News-Piedmont, which was owned by Multimedia Publishing of South Carolina, Inc. The two Myrtle Beach stores were later closed and their inventory trans¬ferred to the Greenville store. FSG then transferred $144,000 to Mullins and other of his corporations—purportedly to repay debts owed by FSG. When the Greenville Sav-A-Lot closed following this transfer, Multimedia was left unpaid for the advertising services that it had provided to FSG. Mullins claimed that he had relinquished man¬agement of FSG to others and did not know that Multimedia had not been paid.

I went to check out a studio, and after that I agreed to take it. So I gave the landlord $500 for deposit. She told me to give the rest of the money and plus the first month rent as soon as I can (One month rent is $1075). But I didn't sign the lease. 2 days later, I changed my mind. I called her and apologized to het for the inconvenient. But she told me she can't return the $500 back to me, because I signed the application form and on the form it says the deposit is nun-refundable. I am wondering that since I haven't signed the lease, can I get the deposit back? I am so worried.

P.S.: I want to add that the application form says If I rent the apt, I won't be able to get back my deposit. But the thing is I didn't rent the place. Would it make it different?

All I did was email my home address thinking they would send me a extensive application for a accounting position with their firm. Nope, they sent me 2 grand in travelers cheques and instructions to cash them, keep 10% and moneygram the rest to two addresses they provided, which are in Nigeria? Not only was the mail I recieved unexpected in nature, the cheques themselves I'm positive are fake. What do I do?

I got called for a college interview on Sunday, but I assure you that the problem warrants a real business interview procedure/etiquette perspective. I got the call and my mom came to me with the phone saying, "this is Joe Smith from the University calling" so we set up the interview and I didn't realize he didn't say his name to me again. Then my mom came in after and said "Did you catch his name? I'm not sure I heard him correctly. I thought he was going to say this is [your friend] Sam that I think it was Joe Smith but I could be wrong due to 'shock.'" Anyway, I called up the University and the best they could do was dispatch another phone call to him and request that he call me again. But I thought this was kind of silly; we got off to a really great start on the phone and I would hate to have him call me again and have me ask him just what his name is! So, what do I do? I have his number. I was thinking of (CONTINUED ...)
