I have been debating with myself over whether the $50 annual Costco membership fee is worth the money for us. We are a young married couple with no kids. Do you think the savings we would make by shopping at CostCo would offset the annual membership fee?

HIPAA and COBRA?

I've been posting here for more than a year and have seen soooo many incorrect answers about these subjects. (So far today, I've read 7 blatently incorrect answers on these subjects.) PLEASE, for the sake of the people you're trying to help, I urge you to read up on HIPAA and COBRA. For example, did you know that: HIPAA permits a person a 63-day lapse in between (NOT 30, as some answer here)? that an employer waiting period is NOT counted toward the 63 days? that COBRA coverage CAN be reinstated under many circumstances? that pregnancy CANNOT be considered a PRE-EXISTING condition *EVER* under a group policy, whether the mother has had previous coverage or not?

Here are good sources to start brushing up on these subjects:

HIPAA: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/portability.htm
COBRA: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm

I'm asking this because I know we all want to provide correct information.

When moving, is there an up front fee to get all utilities turned on(gas, electric, water) ? Or will that be included in the first month bills? Thanks so much!

I have some ridiculous medical charges against me currently.. I am a full time student, that works min wage part time jobs. I am not one to skip out on bills, always pay my credit card etc. .. However those are planned expenses, and this medical one was not.. and its very high for me to afford. I've been researchin letters of hardship, just for an idea of what I would write, but all of those I've found are for just spreading the payments out.. I'm wondering if its possible to actually reduce the priced for good, since I feel that paying this in full will hurt me significantly for at least the next year as I'm trying to pay tuition/living expenses/etc..

Hello: I have a bit of money to invest (84K). My dad passed away awhile ago and now I have to help my mom with payments because his income is gone. I was hoping to take some money, invest it in something that has a monthly interest return of 1% or so that I could draw each month to help defray her mortgage payment. I have no idea where to start, or if there is something out there like it. I was going to just start talking to a financial consultant in my credit union, but wanted to be sure that would be the best way to start? I'd like input on that or if anyone knows of types of investment I could consider, I could bring that knowledge with me in whoever I should talk to. Thank you!

My friend lost his job and hasn't been able to pay his rent for July, he recieved a notice yesterday that he has until today to pay his rent or they will evict him. He started to work at this temp. job this week, and is starting a new job on monday, I am going to let him stay with me for a couple weeks til he can get a new place. I don't know what the laws are regarding evictions in kentucky. How long does he have til they put his stuff out of the apartment. If he is able to pay the rent by the end of the month would that stop the eviction? What time frame is he looking at?

If someone asks for cash only when they do a job, are they evading tax? If so, how does one go about reporting them?

Hi everyone,

Ok, I've been watching my niece typically 5 days a week all year. I drive to my brother's house to do this. He pays me for this and I plan on claiming the earnings on my tax return, especially since he's claiming what he pays me for the child care credit on his return.

I've kept very careful track of my earnings, mileage, tolls, and maintenance on my car all year.

I was wondering if there's any type of calculator or formula I could use to determine approximately how much in taxes I'm going to have to pay. I know I'll have to file a schedule C in January. But here's what I'd really like to know - if the year ended today, how much would I owe? It's more curiosity than anything.

Thanks!

After surveying the property upon the tenants' moveout, I discovered that they had completely trashed the place, doing damage far in excess of the security deposit. Is that something that would be covered by a typical rental homeowners policy?

For instance, if there's a promotion saying "10% off if you mention our ad" or "15% senior discount". Then when you get the bill, it's X dollars, how can you tell where the discount is? I ask because I questioned one man about the discount he mentioned and he said it was already taken into account when he wrote up the bill.

The foreclosure is being listed for 155,000. The tax appraised value of the house is 167,000. The property is in a very good part of town. How much should I offer? Is there anywhere where I can find out how much the bank is into the house for?
