Besides link exchanges, what are other ways to get your link out there for search engines to pick up and rank your website?

If your site is a cooking site but you add your site as a link to sports related forums, would your site be penalized or ban from the search engines?

I am re-designing my sports related website. How do I know which keywords or phrases are the most searched for? If I check the google suggestion box, this phrase seems to be a good one to target: sports articles.

I need a job because I hate asking my parents for money. I ask for about 30 dollars a week. I feel quilty because the only thing I spend it on is clothes and stuff like that. And when and brothers and sisters ask for money it's for a better reason. I'd rather earn the money, then ask.

I'm looking at going to University or college to expand my art career, Right now, I'm not going to school but am succeeding in a fine artist. But I want to possibly have a back up job in the art world, incase my plans don't work out. Something that is in need, and doesn't take more then 3 yrs of school preferably.
I can't do Art director, the job market for that isn't high at all. Any other suggestions ? And what courses I would need to take.
PS. Not graphic designer either. Just something very simple

I worked for three years at my job, and I have accumulated a bit of money in raises but now that the minimum has been increased, which is good for others but sucks for me. Now I'm earning as much as a new employee!

My husband wanted to learn to drive trucks so we started looking into a few truck company and came across Swift Transportation, it said that they trained you to be a truck driver for them, so we filled out the aplication and in no time we received a call from recruiter that told us that yeah its true we train she sent off all the information and told us we need $150.00 to get started and the transportation to there facility by greyhound is paid for by the company....all was well until I heard some bad news about the company, can someone give me honest truth is it a good comapny, do they pay well, is the home time reasonable, and is there catch to this all, sounds too good to be true.

I mean besides filing for unemployment...

I feel really lost and weird and don't know whether to launch into an aggressive job search, move immediately to a cheaper place (I could barely afford this place while I had this job; now there's no way!), or go on a (badly-needed!) vacation. I also need a new car desperately, as mine is falling apart... but I'm in no position to buy a new one now.
So confused...

I gave a first examination under oath to the investigator from my insurance company shortly after my house fire because it was under investigation for arson (charges were filed.....not against me) the questions were mostly related to the investigation on the cause etc. I now have to give a second exam under oath to finish the claims process. My question is in relation to personal property, am I going to have to answer to each individual item and its worth? I was lucky enough to get a copy (thru my lawyer) of the inventory the insurance company did. It is VERY thorough. I plan to use that inventory to support my claim of loss. I am wondering if I have to answer questions bout each individual item listed? I dont have receipts and I cant remember how much things cost when I bought them Also, I would rather not talk about some of the items listed on the inventory from the master bedroom..personal and private items if you know what I mean. How does that all work?
