I mean besides filing for unemployment...

I feel really lost and weird and don't know whether to launch into an aggressive job search, move immediately to a cheaper place (I could barely afford this place while I had this job; now there's no way!), or go on a (badly-needed!) vacation. I also need a new car desperately, as mine is falling apart... but I'm in no position to buy a new one now.
So confused...

First: find out about filing for unemployment and what your benefits are

Next: Start looking for a new job so you can keep your place

Then: Look for a cheaper place to live

Consider this your vacation and don't waste what little you have left on a vacation.

Steps:

1- don't go on vacation, you can't afford it and you're not really taking a break from your job becuase as of now you don't have one.

2- Find a friend who a) works somewhere that is hiring or can get you a job, and b) has an extra room or is looking for a new place and move in with them. Mooch rides from them to work and around.

3- Get grounded and when you can afford it, get a car, and if you hate the job or living condition, find a new one (but only give up the old one once you've 100% secured the new one.

If I were you, I would start putting in applications in everywhere you can. You can go cold calling, look in the paper, and go online like monster.com and I know there are others. You can take a few days off as a vacation. It doesn't sound like you have a whole lot of choice but to immediately find something as you don't seem to have much money and you may have to find a cheaper place to live. Your car is more important as you need it to get where you are going. Maybe you can find a good used car. Ask a good friend to help you find a good used car. You could possibly sell yours for what little you can get out of it and buy a good used one that someone is selling for a small amount. I will pray for you. I know better times are coming for you. Hugs to you and best wishes.

The first thing you should do is file for unemployment. The office where you file should also have some information on job searches. You can also go to Monster.com and put up your resume there. I did that and landed the job I was looking for.
You might also want to contact your bill collectors and let them know somewhat of your situation so you don't blow them off.

But looking online is a good start and submitting your resume online could prove very successful.

Good Luck

Go for temp jobs or sign up with a job agency until you find something more permanent; if you file for unemployment benefits, then at least get an internship or do unpaid volunteer work for references, while job-hunting on the side.

First of all, work on your resume and make it an excellent one to get job, which suits your interest. You should take the help of consultant to make an attractive resume. Then You should submit your resume to leading jobsite like www.monster.com, www.careerbuilder.com. Also you should consult local placement consultant in your area. In the meantime, look out for an option to work online. Although it wont pay you like full time job but you can make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit

I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

Find other ways of making money or look for another job. However, at the moment you might want to find ways to maintain your living standards or downgrade your living standards, whatever is easier for you.

Pray and look for a job. The sooner you do, the sooner you can escape the evils of a debt.
