SEO: How To Find Correct Keywords?

Question

I am re-designing my sports related website. How do I know which keywords or phrases are the most searched for? If I check the google suggestion box, this phrase seems to be a good one to target: sports articles.

You can use the excellent keyword tool at Google https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Type in 'sport' and choose - data to display - 'keyword popularity'. When you see the results click on the column heading "Search Volume" to display them in popularity order then you can iterate down on the common keywords, for more keywords.
