Hi,

I know what you're going through, but you're really not far from a job:

1) Location - make sure you're in a major city. For theater production, New york City or LA have more offerings.

2) Experience - someone with a degree is useless unless they can apply their knowledge to the job. Be sure to have some experience shown on your resume so you can take advantage of it. The only way to get experience prior to getting a paid job is to get an internship. If you get an internship at a major or very reputable business or theater production, your chances of being hired on pay is much higher than the chances of someone without that internship experience.

It might sound difficult, but you're not that far off... really! Take social networking to your advantage with sites like http://meetup.com to meet up with others in the theater or entertainment industry who could also help land you jobs.

Best of luck

C'mon. You had to see that coming.

I'd try getting work, no matter how insignificant, at a local arts council. If you work even as a secretary, you get your face seen and nose into the conversation of many arts people. If you work at the place where they distribute or approve bursaries or public funding for arts projects, you have an incredible 'in' with people who are just starting up, and you start off in the position of power when they come in. They'll say/agree to nearly anything to you to make sure you don't accidentally trash or ignore their application.

This high lights the difference between what people like to do and what people actually get paid to do.

Look for small town theaters all across the country. You'll have to start at the bottom and you won't get paid much. If you love it you'll work for peanuts forever and maybe one day, if you are great, you'll get a decent paying theater production job but they are very few and far between.
