Ok, so Oprah Winfrey recently pulled a book from her famous "Oprah's Book Club List." The story was about a young Cherokee boy and Oprah originally admired the book and put int on her list. The author recently died and his obituary revealed that he had been a lifetime memory of the KKK. She pulled it off the list upon learning the author's history. Her rationale for her action was that the author's racism, hatred of African Americans, and his personal lifestyle offended her. She said (loose quote), "I do not want to fund his way of being."
Ethical issue: Should Oprah have done this? What is the relationship between a work of art and its artist? Is she promoting restrictions on free speech adn artistic expression? Is her actions in this case morally questionable?

Ive been interested in studying philosophy for a long time now, I have met many people that studied philosophy and every single one of them seemed to be very in tune with who they were, what they wanted and they never seemed to worry about things or let others bother them. Ive never met a philosophy college major, but these people basically just studied different kinds of philosophy.

I never got to ask what kinds they studied, or even how you study it, but I always wanted to. Can anyone tell me of a way that I can learn philosophy? I would appreciate it.

I am trying to write out a list to give to my friends and family for Christmas gifts I would enjoy and I was wondering if anyone knew any good Tudor Era books. Like King Henery VIII, Edward Tudor, and Mary Tudor?
Books on Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen Of Scots would be appericated as well. I am very into this time in history and would love so good books during this time periods.
Isabel of Castile and any of the other daughters related to Katherine of Aragon would be loved as well. Marie Anntoniette.
Basically any good history books. But I like the Reforming times. I am not big on American history, so none of those books are needed. I have gotten several written down already. Such as Margret George, Philippa Gregory, and Carolyn Meyer. But are there any other good authors?
Book titles would be good too. Like those 'Royal Dairy' things, like the 'Dear Americas'.
Thank you!

The legend of sleepy hollow

Theme: “the love of money leads to disappointment”

Ichabod Crane is a school teacher who wants to marry a girl but all he really wants from her is money.

Washington Irving chose to name this story “The legend of sleepy hollow” because the town is a sleepy little town.

Repetitions: Jealousy (Brom Bones is jealous of Ichabod Crane and his love affair with Katherine Van Tassel.)Food is also repeated many times in this story.

The names of the characters define them. For example, Ichabod Crane was named after the Crane bird because of his slender physic.

Crane was very skinny and according to the story looked poor. He was very different from everybody else; he was odd. He was always hungry. Crane was also a greedy man…

I recently bought a bamboo flute from an online store in China. It was recommended to me by the seller that, since I live in a dry environment, I oil the flute. How do I do this? Where would I get the oil? What is the oil called? Would simply using vegetable oil do the job?
Thank you
