Put away all your own theology for just a moment and open up your minds. Think about it (hypothetically) say if there were no god and that nature caused our existence, and we advanced so far in science that we actually could live forever and make any lifeform or substance we wanted .....that would make us gods wouldn't it?

I have recently experienced some phsical problems that makes me anxious. At this time in my life is the first real time in my life that I have really took note of the fact that im mortal and will die.Most of my life I have been gung ho and always wanted to expore and do things that I have never done in my life.Now that I worry about my physcial problems they have become and obsession that anything could go wrong anytime.I have taken note of my mortality and feel ,why should i worry about anything because we all are going to die? Then I look at others that works so hard at doing things and they are really sick and have beat the odds and do everything.What is my motivation? Why should I care since im going to die and don't even know when? Please no religious answers ,not that im against religion but there must be something else that can be said about this other than whats to come after death with relgious referrals.Its more of a philosophy /science /humanist question ,thank you

I took a friend of mine to Batoche, in Saskatchewan Canada, the other day and when we were walking through the cemetary we came across 6 or 7 headstones that were all grouped together. They were all children a year apart, except between 1955 and 57, there was no 56. Every single one had the same date of death: March 5 1959.

Does anyone happen to know why this is? Was there a murder or something? I've tried searching it on Google but I can't find anything. The family's name was Hrycuik but there were no parents buried anywhere near the children.

A book I've been reading stresses the importance of "abstractionism" and " the ability of thinking in the abstract". What does this exactly mean. Im ahving a difficult time interpretating the meaning the author is trying to convey. Please, do not make the answer to scholary. One thing Ive noticed about a lot of philosphers and logicians is that the tend to be more concerned with their vocabulary and intellectual self-image than truly assisting people. Ive also noticed how studying this has effected me. Its important for me to teach people, not teach them how to recognize how "intelligent" I can be. Thanks.

I have 587 of my parents' old pictures scanned. I did the albums that had pocket style pages, and I’ve been debating how to do the ones in the sticky page albums.

I have two options:

1. I photograph them through their plastic.
Pros: Less work, fewer fingerprints, no risk of damage from the removal itself.
Cons: Photos are still un-safe over time, possibly reduced quality or increased glare.

2. I take them out, scan then, then put them into something else, probably scrapbooks. I’ve been wanting to do a scrapbook where I’d have two copies of some pictures,one with a coloring book filter applied. People could write peoples names into their outlines.
Pros: Photos are safe, people can be identified for us and future generations, scrapbooks are cooler than photo albums.
Cons: Lots of work for something that might just make mom angry instead of happy. Very time consuming. Have to do one then sell her on the idea before proceeding with the rest.
