what is a levitation "gimmick"?

I have been watching Criss Angel's Mindfreak alot and had the urge to go to thee internet to figure out how he does his magic. I am finding references to a "gimmick" as a piece of wearable equipment for levitation, but no explanation of how it works, without paying for a costly manual. can anyone briefly explain what a "gimmick" is, and how it works?

A website dedicated to people whose name is Lindsay Donald:?
