Love yourself & do what you enjoy. You can't really go wrong that way. People that are unhappy usually ignore these two things. If you don't love yourself, you can't be happy. If you don't do things to make you happy (have fun, treat yourself. Life shouldn't be drudgery, a series of mundane, meaningless tasks. It should be an adventure) then you can't be happy. Happiness isn't just something that falls into your lap. It's something you choose to have, day by day. So choose it! Look in the mirror & say, I love myself & I'm going to make this a great day. Then find a way (even if it's only half an hour out of a busy day) to nourish your soul & do something you really enjoy. Also, even the things you don't like (your job, running errands etc) can be made more pleasant with a positive attitude. Also, it's nice to have things to look forward to. Keep learning, growing & work toward a goal. It gives your life a sense of purpose which also makes you happy.
Good luck! Keep smiling!
:)

Happiness comes from helping other people, it makes you feel good about yourself which makes you happy. I don't know if someone could be "happy forever" because then we probably wouldn't appreciate it - like having blue skies always and never any rain. We need the rain and sometimes we need to go thru hard times which makes us grow much more than easy times. I do know you are much more likely to be happy by getting outside your self and not just focusing always on you (although there's nothing wrong with doing things you enjoy and you should) but when you help another person or even animal, it lasts a whole lot longer.
Good luck to you.

I doubt that there are very many people who are happy all the time, if any. I would imagine even the Dalai Lama has his moments of sadness and he is one of the kindest happiest people I can think of.
I think that a big part of this whole ride is suffering and misery. I don't want to come across as a miserable dude, but I think that more is learned from one's experiences with pain and suffering. It makes the times when you are happy that much better. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, to be miserable sometimes to me is a sign of intelligence. Let's face it, the world is a beautiful amazing thing, but at the same time it has a lot of problems. War, hunger, poverty, abuse, are but a few things. So to not occasionally feel sad or sympathetic towards these things would make a person inhuman in my opinion.
Be happy as much as you can and enjoy every minute of it, but don't worry about feeling down as well. Enjoy that just as much. Because it is all a part of who we are.
Enjoy the Ride,
T

Happiness is within. It is not about everything going your way 24/7. It is about dealing with life's ups and downs and knowing that dealing with the downtime makes you a stronger person. Total happiness total euphoria is just an illusion. Life holds no promises no guarantees.Deal with the now. When the bad times come know it is like the wheel of fortune. Just wait long enough and the wheel will turn.

There's an English proverb, "All happiness is in the mind" as well as from, I presume, all religions which normally teach people how to control the mind such as by means of meditation. Therefore, if you learn to control your mind, it's the secret to your happiness. Other worldly things are mere illusions enticing us to assume them as happiness but, in fact, they just come and go some days soon while your controlled mind keeps you happy for sometime and forever. If you read 'The Dhammapada' which collects good Buddhist verses, you will find a topic stating the importance of the mind, I will quote it for you:
Mind is the forerunner of all things,
mind is their chief, and they are mind-made.
If one speaks or acts with a good mind,
then happiness follows him,
even as his own shadow
that never leaves him.
Take care and be happy.

You know it is ok to be unhappy once in awhile. Life is full of ups and downs, someone, can't remember who said it, that we are unhappy so we can better appreciate when we are happy. How can you know happiness if you've never been sad?
We have a lot of emotions, and it's ok to feel them and we should. Now sometimes we have to deal with these emotions so they don't take over, I find meditation is a good way to go. There are lots of books, web sites and groups you can check out for this. Try different techniques till you hit on one that works for you.

The questions shows you are searching for happiness..
Think and answer for yourself..are you greedy enough so that you want to always happy or is that the fear of something else(poverty/death/illness)..
The true way to happiness is enlightment, understanding the truth in the life, being broad minded and most of all being selfless
, being satisfied in what you get, making others happy, seeking wisdom , seeking divinity and a simple life..like buddha told " desire is the root cause for miseries"..eliminate your desires on world things..though it might be fully possible you can try..fight the things that drag you into worldly pleasure...You will have peace and a healthy soul..which is what being happy.

You have to live your life the way you want to live it and go after what you want in life. Don't base your happiness on some one else. You will undoubtedly have hard times in your life that you will have to work through. But you need to have faith in something, whether that is God, yourself, or just that fact that no one is ever given more than they can handle. My advice- get to know yourself, and have peace with yourself. Change the things you do not like about yourself. Discover what it is you want out of life and go after it. A good book about self discovery is Self Matters by Dr. Phil McGraw. Most of all remember that life is a journey to be enjoyed, not a struggle to get through. I know it might sound like too much of a cliche but life really is what you make of it.

Being happy forever is a very hard task...it involves not having a big ego and ignoring the slights of everyone around you...but in following the inner flow and love inside your soul...

There's a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is fleeting and transient, and depends on external conditions. Joy is internal and intrinsic. I've found the most incredible joy imaginable through Jesus Christ. Check out a little about my life at the first link below, and feel free to drop me a line at chad@jesusfreak.com.
