Go to evening or day classes. I started there three years ago...I haven't been this past year because I have had so many serious problems to clear up. They teach you drawing, multi media (oils, acyrilics and water colour, charcoal, pen and ink ) and landscapes portraits and still life. You will love it there. I loved every moment and I have done well in portraits and figure work which I find relaxing and easy to do. Good luck. The classes cost about £120 a term but the paints and books are quite expensive. Watercolours are about £3. a tube if they are good ones and the books vary according to size but are about £6 and over. There is a shop called Hobbycraft that you can get all these things from and if you look out for sales in Tottenham Court Road or that shop from Trafalgar Square to Leicester Square Station you can get some good bargains. I have no idea where you live. I have a good book The Drawing and Painting Course by Angela Gair and also The Practical Encyclopedia of Watercolour by Wendy Jelbert and Ian Sidaway that you might like to look at in a library before you buy them. You can get small easles with a drawer or the paints from one shops that cost only about £8 if you look around and it is very useful. Good luck. I hope this helps you.

Personally, I would go to an art class. The local paper will print out when lessons are due to start in your area. Pick out a beginners class and water colour might be a good start as you like landscapes. These classes are cheap and sometimes free if you are not in work. You need to book early as they get really full. It is good though because you can meet other people with similar interests and they often point you in another direction. Good luck.

I would contact a local community college or artist gallery and take lessons by a professional. Watching something on tv is one thing, talking to a real live person is quite another. You will learn more 'secrets'. Plus, they can tell you the best place to buy your supplies....and it isn't Walmart.

If you know what type of paints you want to use then you can buy a book all about painting withthat type of paint. I reccommend Acylic paints as they are similar to oils but dry much quicker and are easy to use !!

Good Luck !!!
