But, one might ask, did Nazi leader Adolph Hitler for example, who must have been on the super highway to Hell, have ANY good intentions at all? Have you seen the Adam Sandler movie which shows Hitler in Hell?

I don't think the expression is meant literally for those in Hell. I don't think Hitler, Manson or any evil murderous ****** eternally damned really had good intentions (though in their sick, delusional, twisted, maniacal minds they may think that they did. Hitler believed he was doing what was best for the Germans. Manson wanted to start a revolution and seemed to believe his own warped ideas.)

I think the expression is just meant to convey that sometimes you can mean well & it still goes horribly awry. You can try to do the right thing & it still goes wrong & ends up hurting people. You may intend to help someone and actually harm them, intend to make the world a better place & actually make it worse.

I haven't seen the movie but Adam Sandler is hilarious. I've never seen a movie that shows Hitler in Hell. That's cool.

Cheers!

:)

If our "good intentions" aren't congruent with God's will and God's Word, they won't amount to anything anyway. If we don't trust in grace alone to save us, nothing we do will get us into heaven.

I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan, but if the movie portrays Hitler in hell, I'd probably check it out. My personal favorite spoof of Hitler is "You Nazty Spy" by the Three Stooges.

Well, Hitler's intentions were not even known to Eva.

Be that as may be, coming to your main question, when one is going really to Hell, who could care for any good or bad intentions in the midst of Hellish worries?

Anyway, that is about all in those wise sayings!!

The road to hell is paved with selfishness and greed...Hitler tried to stop the Jews from economically destroying the Germans...the Jews economically now run America...is that road paved with good intentions or is it the road to hell for the Americans...

Preachers say this when talking about someone trying to get into Heaven by their own good works. This is not a saying that relates to everyone who goes to "Hell". I'm sure Jeffery Dahmer didn't have good intentions either.

The key word is 'intention'. Many people set out intending to do good, but for one reason or another they do not. What it could translate to is 'actions count'
