Well, I have 15 grandchildren, my first 7, believe it or not call me "Granny", I use to hate that because I thought it made me feel old. I would say now when we get in the store, now don't call me
"Granny", say "grandma", we would get in the store and they would yell "hey Granny "can I have this? Now my 2-youngest call me me me-me, and the other grandma is na-na. The other grandma to my youngest is from Germany and teaches him German. To make a long story short, it doesn't matter what they call you, because each grandchild will have their own name to call you. And nothing will change that. And each time you hear them call you their own name you will feel a special love.

You could try Grandma, Nanna, Nonna, Omar, Mammar or even just Sandy if it is easy for the child to say.

Grammy, Granny, Nana, Mee-maw, Grams, Gran-mom ... Take your pick. But it's NOT good form to let Grandchildren use your first name without SOME kind of title... your Kids call you Mom don't they? If nothing else, try Miss Sandy, Gramma Sandy.... Something to show that they are aware of you as the parent of THEIR parent, not their peer....

My Mother is only 61 and my daughter didn't feel that Grandma or mamaw fit her. She calles her Gramsey. A little more personal for her.

My mother insisted on being called "Grandmamma".

Her mother was simply "Mamaw".

My father's mum was "Gran".

Other family members: Big Mama, Little Mama

When I have grandchildren, I am considering "NaNa" as a variation on the syllables in my name. "Grand" is also acceptable, because that is what I am - simply grand!

How about "SanGran"?

Well, here in the Philippines, we call our grandmothers Lola (Lo-la, not Low-la). When spoken it is often with mildness and respect.

I call my grandmother Gramma sometimes too.

My kids grandmother asked them to call her mudder. She despised being called a grandmother.

Let the children decide. they will always remember you and they would want you to have a special name for being some one special to them! ~Good Luck with this!
