Certain questions are wrong -- like asking, "do you still beat your wife?" If you've never beaten your wife there's no correct way to answer it. If you answer "yes" it implies that you once DID beat your wife, and if you answer "no" it implies that you're still doing it.
Such is the case with this perennial question. It keeps coming up, and people think there's an objective answer -- like a solution to a mathematical equation, or a cure to a disease. People keep expecting someone, somewhere to come up with the magic answer, and suddenly we're all going to slap our foreheads and say, "WOW! So THAT'S it!!! Thanks."
Unfortunately, life is not an objective enterprise. It is a subjective enterprise. We may do science objectively, but Nobody (I repeat -- NOBODY) lives life "objectively." We all live it subjectively. And if that is the case, the question "what is the meaning of life" is nonsensical. You're asking for an objective answer to a subjective problem.
Therefore, you have to approach the problem subjectively. The proper question isn't "what is the meaning of life" (in objective terms), but "What is the meaning of MY life" -- asked in subjective terms.
And what is the meaning of YOUR life? Only YOU can answer that. That is the existential choice. It's all on you -- and nobody but you. It's the question each one of us must ultimately confront. You can be reactive and let others choose for you; or you can be proactive, seize the day, and define your own existence. It's up to you.

Existence of humanity is rather very very recent in the history of this universe. Were it to have any deeper meaning, is it not logical to assume that it should have existed from much earlier?
We are but a minuscule part of this vast and diverse universe. We suffer from a bloated ego so much so as to believe that the universe needs us more than we need the universe - that we are some special creation in the larger scheme of things. The universe does its best to let us know by throwing unending uncertainties at us at every step ........ and yet, we the incorrigible continue to look for a deeper meaning for our existence that is in reality quite close to 'zero' or nothing at all in the larger scheme of things. In any case, it should be none of our worry - if there is a purpose, it will get fulfilled despite ourselves.
Sorry, if it is depressing but often the truth is bitter. Our ego makes us love and cherish the lie!!

Humanity is but another step in the aging process o the being that we are all a part of. Life is not a statement that has some intrinsic meaning. Life means many different things to many different people.
What it means to you is strictly up to you as an individual. The purpose of life, on the other hand is to Live. It has no other purpose. Enjoy it while you can and try to fulfill your destiny, then all will be well.

Meanings themselves are part of life. To find a meaning for life would be to still be caught up inside the game. I understand why people ask it - after all, what is the point of being able to contemplate our own existence if we can't come up with an answer.
Like koans used by monks (those questions that have no literal answer - the point of asking them is to get your mind to clear after going around in a circle of ideas and realising there is no answer). That point of contemplation, when you realise there is no answer, lies the meaning of life.
A more simple way of interpreting this is - the meaning of life - it's purpose - is perhaps for us to acknowledge that we are in something incredible but be able to put the knowledge aside and give purpose to our own individual lives. I personally think life has no meaning in itself - it is simply the fact that it is limited in time for us that it attains value - i.e. if we never died, there would be no point in doing anything really, because there would be no beginning and no end.
If you are wondering why we are here, why there is no such thing as "nothing" - it is simply because "nothing" is in itself a concept - the absence of something. Everything in life exists in pairs of opposites. You can't have life without death. You can't have nothing without something having existed in the first place.

The meaning of life is whatever meaning you choose to give to it. You are responsible for your life, for how it is lived and how you precieve it. And you are also responsible for its meaning.
