The fastest transfer rate I got for a USB 2.0 hard drive (WD, Phantom, and many others I've tried) connected directly to my computer is ~12000 kB/s with an average of about 7000 kB/s. All these hard drives are usually advertised as having up to 50 or even 100 MB/s (not kB/s).
Over a home network with a winXP server I have average transfer rates of 1200 kB/s.
Is this normal? What transfer rates should I be having for direct USB and server data tranfers? I have brand new supped up computer with dual core processors and 4GB ram.

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons or prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted and the horse immediately springs into motion.
It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slip from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip.
She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the side of the horse anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly impervious to it's slipping rider.
Finally, giving up her frail grip, she leaps away from the horse to try and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup, she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the surface over and over.

Minn. Woman Shoots Albino Deer During Opener
(WCCO) On this season's deer opener, a Minnesota woman shot one of the rarest kinds around; an albino deer. Mary Rakotz of Avon got the 6-point buck on Saturday in Mille Lacs County.
She said it was thrilling to see the rare animal, but 100 times more exciting to be able to actually take it home.
"I had heard that it might be in the area, so I thought that here was my chance of a lifetime. So I had to creep a little bit, probably about 40 yards, to get a good place where I could steady myself a little bit. But then I did that and shot and it went right down," said Rakotz.
Rakotz said she isn't sure if she has room to mount the buck, so she's contacted Cabella's to see if they're interested in buying it.
She also said her family and friends are pretty excited for her, and maybe even a little jealous.

Ok. I have a computer running Windows XP MCE. I've had it for a year now and I'm thinking about reloading Windows and putting my old files back on it. The only thing is when I put windows back on it'll be a year behind on updates. Could I download an updated version that 'would be considered an illegal copy of windows' except I'm going to use my own OEM code. Would this be illegal?
