Ok. I have a computer running Windows XP MCE. I've had it for a year now and I'm thinking about reloading Windows and putting my old files back on it. The only thing is when I put windows back on it'll be a year behind on updates. Could I download an updated version that 'would be considered an illegal copy of windows' except I'm going to use my own OEM code. Would this be illegal? I have the right to reload Windows as long as I use the code only on a single computer.

Yes i do this all te time on all the computers i sell. Its prolly illegal to actually download it assuming your using some sort of p2p app, but its not illegal to install it, as the computer is already licensed for it (so youve paid for it) just make sure its the same version and that its an OEM cd (btjunkie has a huge wme OEM torrent going that i use)

Assuming you have a legal XP CD and code, I don't think there's anything wrong with slipstreaming current updates onto a copy of the CD. Search Microsoft's support site for "slipstream". (Hope I got the right word.)

Seems like more trouble than it's worth, though. You could just install then let Windows Update or automatic update bring it up to date.
