I will be receiving a settlement and they say I can either receive it in a lump sum or annuity. My thought process is that if I take the lump sum (780,000) I could put it in the bank and just withdraw interest accrued monthy and that would help pay the big bills (house, car, motorcycle) and that lump sum never gets touched versus if I choose the annuity, then the money never gets a chance to accrue interest cuz it would be much smaller amount and go straight to the bills, anyone have thoughts about this or think my idea is good or bad? b the way I'm 39 since people would ask how old I am , thanks

Suppose for a moment that we found a way to time travel.

I have a theory on how it would work. The mechanics. I would like everyone here to discuss the idea that time and space are relative but not the same.

Most modern ideas about time travel insinuate that to travel back in TIME is to travel back and see different things happen in that SPACE.

To travel back to 1931, you would suddenly be in the midst of World War II.

But I have a theory of time and space being related but not so closely. More like 2 parts to a machine, the physical part (space) and the incorporeal, more theoretical part (time).

The way I see it, to travel back in time does not mean that objects in that space will reverse age or that suddenly things from the past will show up in that space. I feel that time is more of a reference point in the universe that has no affect on what is in that space.

I compare it to a pointer in programming. Doesn't matter where the pointer is, just matters what it's pointing to.

Liberals and democrats here in Yahoo Q and A like to call George Bush a "chicken hawk". They claim he avoided Vietnam service by joining the Air National Guard, yet has no problem sending troops to fight and die in Iraq. Okay........

So then what was Clinton? Clinton NEVER EVEN SERVED in the military, but had no problem sending ill-equiped Army Rangers to die in Somalia in 1993-94, sending troops to Rwanda in July 1994, sending troops to Haiti in September 1994, invading Bosnia in December 1995, sending US sailors into harms way to maneuver off the coast of China in 1996 as a threat to Beijing, and firing cruise missiles at suspected chemical weapons sites in Iraq in December 1998! So if George Bush is a "chicken hawk" then what was Bill Clinton?

First of all, you only let people collect unemployment for 12 weeks, not 26. Second, to collect it, they have to document how they spent 40 hours each week looking for work. Third, they have to take a drug test every week. The same for anyone collecting any free government aid, WIC, food stamps, welfare. They all have to pass a drug test. If they fail, they have to get treatment, otherwise they get arrested and locked up for 2 weeks. The second time they fail a drug test, they get locked up for 2 months. The third time they get locked up for life, with parole if they do well in prison. The idea here is to get drug users to leave the state and go to a more "drug friendly" state.

Would it work? What do you think?

Where can I find and take, say, a "personality test" that gives suggestions of the job types that work for my abilities and prefrences. An on-line test would be great! (esp. free, since I am not working)

Does anyone else think the abuse reporting is getting out of hand around here?

Can't we all appreciate our disagreements and respect our rights to free speech?

Do we have to report abuse every time our feelings are hurt?

Are there any older mature people engaged in this type of censorship - or are most of you like me thinking - whether Christian or Atheist - most of the abuse reporting around here is done by immature, irresponsible teen-agers?

So I ask you - is R&S just a bizarre on-line world where all the power is in the hands of some crazy kids - like "Lord of the Flies"?!?

PS - I am a Christian, been insulted here many times in some of the most vile and disgusting ways imaginable - age 37 - and have never reported any one no matter how hateful or offensive I consider their post to be.....and never will.

1 Corinthians
14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

How do you interpret these verses? Does the church that you attend apply them?

Thanks in advance for thoughtful answers.

I don't usually cuss but I had to say 'Damn' when Gordon Brown went out to Iraq and said a 1000 soldiers will be home for Christmas and it turned out to be spin, because I was going to vote for him in his snap election and now I can't because it's still the same old stuff we've been getting for ten years now. When did it become acceptable for judges to tell people how to run their lives, on punishment of taking their children away and large sums of their money. Doesn't anyone else see how wrong this is? Is this really in the best interest of our children. Shouldn't there be some requirement of proof that a child is in real physical danger. Shouldn't there be a jury trial before the law can take away a person's children? Testimony from a disgruntled former employee should not be considered adequate. Clearly this is a violation of the 5th and 14th amendments. At what point are people going to start realizing how much of their rights have been eliminated by these types of family court actions?
