Little Billy turned one last week and I've been going crazy!
All I hear from mommy is "please go play with the baby"
Mommy's doing laundry now then next she has the dishes,
Vacuuming, dusting, mopping up the floor, cooking dinner and feeding the fishes.
I get stuck in my room sometimes with drooling little Billy
I can hear my friends outside in the sprinkler acting silly,
I remember when it used to be only mommy, daddy and me.
Daddy still went to work everyday and mommy and I would clean.
When we were done we'd get our coats and head out to the park.
Mommy would buy us an ice cream cone and we'd play till almost dark!
When we'd get home I'd play a bit and mommy would fix our plates.
Daddy would be home for supper. He was never late.
After supper we'd all sit down and listen to a tale
Of how one boy became a king the entire town would hail.
After that I'd take a bath with my favorite submarine
Mommy would play and wash my back to make sure I was clean
Mom and dad would tuck me in after I brushed my teeth
Mommy always sang a lullaby meant for only me.
Now everyday everything is changed, I really miss the park
Mommy and I don't play there now so we're always home before dark
I help mommy in the kitchen now and get out all the plates
Daddy works a little more so sometimes he is late.
I can read a little bit about the boy who became a king
But it's not the same without daddy, I miss our old routine
Instead of bath time every night, sometimes I take a shower
So Billy can get washed up too, I miss my bath time hour
Mom and dad still tuck me in and kiss my cheek goodnight
But sometimes mommy forgets to sing my special lullaby.
I get so mad I have to be stuck in here with Billy
I cross my arms and start to pout,
I kick some toys and I shout,
'Billy, go away, get out!"
Then Billy starts to cry.
Oh now I think I've done it, mommy's going to be upset
She will come in here I fear, Ooo the talking I will get!
"Shhh, Billy! Please quiet down, that's not how big boys act!
'Please Billy, quiet down!" I said as I rubbed his back.
So I hug little Billy, he leans in to hug me too.
I dry his eyes and to my surprise, Billy dries mine too.
I beep his nose and tweak it; he beeps and tweaks my nose,
Next thing you know we're laughing while we're trying on dads clothes.
Mommy calls from the kitchen "Boys its time to eat!"
But mommy" I said, I'm not done yet, playing with little Billy!"
"Billy needs to take a bath and have a story read,
He has to hear a lullaby too before we go to bed"
Well I guess theres always tomorrow and we'll have lots more fun,
It's not so bad after all now, that Billy just turned one.
