In what sense do you mean? If you mean that hospitals will not treat the homeless then I believe that they should, they have a job to help all those in need. But if you are speaking about after they get help then I have this to say: I want the homeless to be helped, to not be homless anymore but in the grand picture of things hospitals have to let the homeless back out into the streets. They can not keep them, there is no where to put them. This is a growing problem in our world that needs to be adress but hospitals, operate on money and sometimes are cold hearted enough to toss anyone, homeless or not, that can't pay back into the streets/

I think it is sad that homeless people are patched up or worse turned away and sent on their way without a being under supervision from a medical staff. Hospitals are a business. And as with any kind of business they are there to make money. A homeless person does not have the money for treatment. Therefore the hospitals are not going to keep them around for very long.

Well they could only keep what the tax payers are willing to contribute. -- I can't say anything else - it all comes down to money. If we did not have 20 million illigals in this country draining the economy by 1) over crowding the hospital emergency rooms with non- life threatning issues 2) over crowding the prison/jail system with 25% of the current population of inmates being illigal and 3) over crowding the school system and lowering the curve so your kids standard of learning will be lower because we have dumbed down the tests so everyone can pass.
We might have a system where the mentally ill can get help. But as long as the Republicans love the cheap labor and the Democrats love the welfare machine well oiled - nothing is going to change.

The hospitals dump the homeless back to the street only b'cos they are homeless. If you think of the billions of dollars that the leaders of this country are spending on fighting stupid wars, you'll not blame the hospitals so much. I know what you are talking about but the problem is not with the hospitals.

It frustrates the crap out of me.
I know a lot of people say that people choose to be homeless, and while this may be true for some people it does not make them any less worthy of proper health care and fair treatment.
Doctor's make so much money - I don't understand why they can't do pro-bono work and allow homeless people to have free health care.
I realize that is not a 'secure' way to do things. Homeless people can take advantage of this, but there must be some way to provide health care to those who are less fortunate.

Hope this helps.

Its unfortunate, its unfair, its despicable, and its just plain wrong. But money talks in our society. Can't pay, can't stay.

Unfortunately (for the hospitals and the homeless), they usually end up at the emergency room. After no referring Psyche hospital will take them, they are sent on their way with instructions to "follow up" with a mental health agency which they rarely do.

It happens. In many, but not all, jurisdictions that's illegal - the institution must find a safe and secure place for a homeless person who is incapable of living on their own. There exist a variety of advocacy groups to which such people can turn - visit your local social services office or speak to a clergy person to find out what sorts of services of this nature are available where you live.

They do not dump people in the streets, if they need to be discharged there are resources that they are referred to to get shelter, the social service department of the hospital sees to it that they get this information and facilitate this referral. It is a different matter if the patient who may be homeless refuses to use the resources or refuses to be helped. Some people don't like to go to shelters as there are rules to be followed.

What do you propose a hospital do with them? 20-30 years ago the hospitals for the mentally ill emptied because there wasn't funding. Although there had always been homeless, That's when the real problems started. Insurance, my dear, controls us!
