How do I pull codes from the check engine light on an '88 Tunderbird 5.0? I read somewhere once that you can pull the codes with a paperclip stuck into two terminals where you plug the computer into the car. But I don't know which two terminals or what the codes would mean. My light just came on, so I wanna try to diagnose it myself without having to go to Advance or whoever does it. Thanks.

yea my friend showed me how to do this once. but its for OBD1 computer terminals in cars. and im willing to bet by 88 they had OBD2...completly diffrent. but IF it is an OBD1...their should only be 2 terminals....and you connect them with a paper clip. and youre check engine light will flash to the code....then u have to have the OBD1 code book to look em up....easy stuff, but like i said...by 88 i THINK they had OBD2

you could do this ,any parts store has real cheap reader you can buy it also comes with a list of some of the most common codes, and a repair manual has a complete list of them, even if you figure out how to read it and write all this down you still wont have no idea of what they mean ,id suggest you get a reader at least to help you with it,sometimes its hard to read the flashes,if you miss read one flash it will throw you off track on it,this is just a suggestion though ,good luck with it.
