i've recenlty heard this argument. what do you think?

imperialism is a policy of exerting effective and continuing control or authority over foreign entities as a means of acquisition and/or maintenance of empires. this is either through direct territorial conquest or settlement, or through indirect methods of influencing or controlling the politics and/or economy. the term is used to describe the policy of a nation's dominance over distant lands, regardless of whether the subjugated nation considers itself part of the empire.

thoughts? (looking for intelligent discussion, please don't hide behind name calling as a means of getting your point across)

I know calling 911 would be 1st, but what can a person do before paramedics arrive or if in a remote location. I searched on internet first, and didn't find anything helpful. Please list first aid for exit and non-exit wounds.

i mean i have posted a few questions in the past that obviously have no answer. eg, is there a god?
It seems as if people REALLY feel that they have the answer, and then the computer system comes along and generates "best answer" if none has been chosen and it's all forgotten. Are they just giving there opinion? I may have just answered my question but once again that was my opinion

I was at home sick one day, and my boss called a couple of times and said she needed some information I had taken home to work on. She stressed it was urgent and they would be submitting the information the same day. It is still sitting on her desk!
She did, in fact, come to my house and pick up the information. Is this legal or do you think she was just checking up on me? I am rarely absent, so there is no reason for them to doubt my word.

Please give me your opinions.

My 87 GM pickups check engine light came on.The code is reading # 32 which is replace the EGR valve.I reset the computer to erase the code and the light came on again reading the same thing a couple of days later.I just replaced the EGR valve less than 6 months ago.Is it possible that the EGR vacuum solenoid is bad and not the EGR valve itself.Thanks

There's a good whack of young people here with babies, or with babies on the way, saying "But I work and go to school!" in response to the usual slags on teen-age mothers as irresponsible welfare recipients.

I'm reading a book about the working poor in the US right now ("No Shame in My Game") and this does not seem...possible.

How on earth does one find an entry-level job that supports two people and pays for child care?

Not criticizing; just very curious. The book's about the urban poor, so I may be missing something about the cost of living in rural parts of the States.

Some explanation -- "I am a receptionist; I make $x/week, my rent is $X, child care costs me $X, so..." would be extremely useful.

Of course how one finds the energy to work AND go to school AND raise an infant will continue to boggle me, but. I'm very curious about the economics involved.

I noticed my computer was beginning to load, and perform slower, so I went to the add or remove programs thru my Control Panel. I scanned the list and came across one that had used over 200,000 mb's, and thought to myself " Wow! whatever that is, it sure is taking up alot of space on my hard drive! ( DUH!!??), What it was, but didn't imply was the virtual Java system!! I also uninstalled the program called somethin' like "Sun Microsystems". It was 112,000+ mbs....that wiped out the memory, because when I sign on to my pogo game a message appears that says that a reference memory # could not be read!! I've tried "Restoring my Computer to an earlier date", but that isnt working either. Has anyone out there ever done a remote assistance where I have you make the necessary changes to fix this? I really need someones help! My computer is less than 2 months old, and was a Christmas present, and although I'm not completely computer illiterate

I recently applied at a Temp Agency for a job that only hires workers through said temp agency. I ONLY went through the agency because that was the ONLY way to apply for it.

There were no openings for that company, but just today I got a call from the Temp Agency asking if I wanted a temp-to-hire position in a different area of work altogether.

I am leery about accepting a job from a temp agency, because I don't interview with the employer first. Not only that, but I only have until later on this afternoon to decide if I want to accept it!

Are there any pitfalls to using a Temp Agency?

We have an older farmhouse, basement is faced off with cement. Snakes still get in the basement and occasionally into the first floor. Very annoying, especially for my wife.
We are surrounded by farmland and orchard, and have used SnakeStopper in the past with a fair degree of success, but our goal is to eliminate them especially from the house. Any help would be appreciated.
