I was at home sick one day, and my boss called a couple of times and said she needed some information I had taken home to work on. She stressed it was urgent and they would be submitting the information the same day. It is still sitting on her desk!
She did, in fact, come to my house and pick up the information. Is this legal or do you think she was just checking up on me? I am rarely absent, so there is no reason for them to doubt my word.

Please give me your opinions.

Try looking at this in a positive way. Did she call you and come by the house because she feels you are important to the structure of the company and can't be without you, even for one day? Legal or not legal, do you like what you do?

Certainly not illegal but extremely unprofessional. The explanation for the visit to your home could be legit but was it so important it couldn't wait?
I had a job a few years ago where I was always getting called on my days off. I would have to get away from the phone plus get out of town or they would come by my house. I learned later that this behavior was promoted by another employee who felt he deserved to have my position because he had been there a lot longer and was jealous.
Check beneath the surface for alterior motives.

It is probably not illegal, but it is still a touchy situation. I have never gone to my employees' houses when they have called in sick. While I always got pissed off when they did call in, there was nothing I could do since they are legally entitled to sick days.

As far as coming to your house.... I've actually had to get information from an employee who took his work home. He was able to fax it to me, but I would never have gone to his personal home.

Best thing you to do for this not to happen is to not call in sick from work ever again.

Big Brother is everywhere.
Everything's OK to do now.
Yeah, kiss it.
But on re-reading your day, I think the issue is not trust.
i think the problem is that employers really believe that they OWN you.
MY BF works for a firm that does indeed do internationally important work.
Minor, non-political, but environmentally friendly kind of stuff.
So, they think they own him.
And they do.
They own my man.
And it's wrecking us, but hey, that's life.

I think it is legal, but I, also, think it is d@mned inconsiderate of her to treat someone who is ill that way. Was she just checking on you, or is she so incompetent that she's come to depend on you waaaaay too much?

I dont see anything illegal about it. She may have been checking up on you or not.
