A friend of ours is in hospital, waiting for a major operation. He's got a rough time ahead, and doesn't want any visitors, but we want to let him know we are thinking of him. Most cards are cheerful chirpy things saying "Get Well soon if not sooner!!!" or making jokes about the hilarious mistakes surgeons make.
So we buy blank cards - but it's so hard to think what to write in them that will brighten up his long days and keep his spirits up.
Please suggest some phrases because we are running out of cliches and finding it hard to say what will make him smile & not lose heart. Isn't there any new way of saying "We know you are not going to get instantly better, and we can't know what you are going through, and will face, but we are all thinking of you and willing you well. Wish we could do more."
I would really appreciate some good thoughts. Only one of us is good with words and we can't copy what she sends him! I know from being ill that it can really help.
