choose your basis if you are looking at gravity= to g/gc where g/gc is = specific gravity at a particular altitude from the center of the earth, g/gc is the equivalent percent as a fractional decimal times 100 of gravity usually 9.8m/sec2. For instance gravity on the moon is 1/6 gravity on earth equivalent percent is 16.67%

A percent means a ratio of a quantity portion to the whole .
Example 1/2 slice of a melon is 50 percent of the whole melon.
So the percent indicates how much you took out relative to the whole.
Percent is used in all types of analysis.
However in Engineering a different aproach is used because its used as part of simplified formulas.
This is called the per Unit. instead of comparing to one hundred as in percentage ,the per unit compares to "one"..
So 50% would be writen ," .5 " per units.
To convert to percent you multiply per Unit by one hundred and you are back to percent.
