Washington, D.C.

I am referring to Alexandria Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Montgommery and Howard counties in Virginia and Maryland respectively. Are these places clean? Are they cleaner than most of America? What about the Noerthwestern quadrant of Wahington DC? I mean the one that has Georgetown...is it clean too?

To those who have visited these places or lived there...when you went to other parts in America, did you find other places to be cleaner, safer, having more facilities, having more friendly people or not? How would you rank the wealthy suburbs of DC with the rest of the places that you've been to?

Do I have to pay to get in to everything individually or is there some sort of ticket or something I can purchase. How about getting around in DC. Any tips about traveling and restaurants, would be great.

I am looking to travel from Balitmore Int'l Airport on Feb 22, which is a Thursday, to Washington DC and back to Baltimore again on Feb 25, which is a Sunday. I will be landing at BWI at around 10 30 pm and hence will be looking to catch either a bus or a train to DC at around 11pm on Thursday evening. Then I need to get back to BWI from DC on Sunday at around 6 30 am to catch the 7 55 am flight.
So what is the best way and the cheapest (safe) to travel to and from Baltimore and Washington DC? Looking to find out the time required and the fares. Taking a cab is somewhat too expensive for me.

I'm considering a job in DC. I have a young family, so low crime and safety are very important. Schools are not a factor -- we are homeschooling our kids. My job would be in the city, so being near a Metro station would be great. I'm not terribly familiar with the communities in suburban VA or MD. Any suggestions? Thanks!

On the pavement side, when facing the fountain in the White House garden, you can notice a small black box reading "Welcome to the White House" with a press-button on it ??? what's its purpose ?? I pushed it and nothing (bad -unfortunately) happened ! Just for dumb people to try it ?? ;-)

I'm considering moving to the D.C. area, or the Virginia or Maryland suburbs as well. I'm looking for a job that pays decently, and was impressed with all the job listings for that area in the Washington Post. (Jobs suck where I live outside Pittsburgh.) Anybody who lives there, works there, been there, offer any advice to me? Currently I live about 4 hours away, but the closest to D.C. that I've been is Annapolis. This question is given to those who have lived in Washington DC. Please do not depend upon statistics; just your own experience:

I've read that the Northwestern Quadrant of Washington DC is relatively safe. I've also read that the Northern and Western suburbs of DC are very safe. These suburbs are: Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax and Loudoun counties in Virgina, and Montgomery and Howard counties in Maryland.

How true is this statement? Are these counties safer than most of the USA? Is Gerorgetown, DC a safe place; along with the other parts of Northwestern DC?

I'm looking forward to serious answers. If detailed, they'd be better. Thanks a lot in advance.
