Actually the Watergate is a very good hotel. Also there is a Holiday Inn neat the capital building that is good.

My wife & I stayed at The Madison in DC. It is a 4-star hotel. Very nice. We pricelined it and got it for under $100 (it's usually a $300 room). Walking distance to the White House.

Any Marriott owned hotel. Marriott's headquarters is in Bethesda so some of their best hotels are in the area. I like the Renaissance near the old convention center. It has a great bar called the Presidents Bar. Good luck!

I like the Renaissance Mayflower, historic, classy, good location, not too expensive. Forgot about the Sofitel, a French chain, always one of the best in any city.

Don't stay at the Wyndham on M street. They are undergoing major renovations and it is QUITE unpleasant. we stayed there last week!
We saw the Madison one block away. We were jealous.
The location is GREAT, so try to find something around there...M street and 15th.
I LOVE DC!!
