I went to DC for a short weekend in April of 2004. We actually stayed in Reston or Herndon, VA (sorry can't remember, they're so close). It was so much easier taking the subway into DC than driving. Didn't have to deal with traffic, finding parking, or paying for gas. Have a great trip!

Ohh! I absolutely love D.C. I have been there twice and its so cool.

i went to the Air and Space Museum three times. The many many things to see there are just fabulous. They have everything from the first landing on the moon to whats going on now. They have models of all the first plains and spacecrafts. They also have fun places for children and educational too.

the Washington National Cathedral is the biggest church in washington. they have music, good sermons and it really gets you in touch with god. even if you are a first time visitor they welcome you with open arms.

One of the best transportation is the Gray Lin Trolly. They have stops at Holiday Inn Capital, Arlington Cemetery, Post Office, Ronald Reagen Building, and so much more. But if you prefere taxis or the subway they centainly are an experience themselves.

The Arlington National Cemetery is a beutiful place to visit. Over 275,000 service men and woman are laid to rest on 624 acres of land. About 24 burials are conducted every weekday. The three un- known soldiers memorial there is a awesome place to see. The changing of the guards is cool to whatch too. Also the Kennedy gravesites are beutiful. It only cost around 5 dollars for the tourmobile sightseeing and you will see the Kennedy Gravesite, Tomb of the Unknowns and the Arlington House.

The Library of Congress is a beutiful site also. You can take a tour and you will get to see everything.

Mount Vernon is wonderful. It will tale around an hour in the summer to see the house. You will get a tour of all the rooms and every purpose of them and then go see the tomb of George Washington and his family. They have wonderful gardens, horse stables, a lake and so much more. You will see a video and when you leave you will know everything there is to know of our first president.

They have a wonderful zoo there.

Make sure to go to the Spy Museum. It wont look big on the outside but its huge on the inside. It will be an experience you will never forget.

If you are there the Fourth of July you will see a wonderful firework display. It goes on for about a hour. But when you leave be careful cause the streets are packed. Dont leave the fireworks on the subway!

Go to the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Veatnam wall and just have fun!!!

whether you reside in DC or an intensive-in suburb, do no longer hire a vehicle. Parking in DC is complicated to discover and extremely high priced, and except you comprehend the city, you will get all bollixed up by skill of the site visitors circles. There are low-fee places the two in DC and out. the factor approximately eating in DC is that there is a 10 p.c. tax on eating place food (which sucks!). yet there are truly great eating places right here worth attempting.

When I went to DC we stayed in Virginia and took the subway in everyday. It worked out good because we good sight see in DC or Virginia. The only bad thing was that it was a long ride.

definitely stay IN the city. the rates at the hotels are actually cheaper on the week-ends ( the business travelers are all gone). Park the car at the hotel and walk if it's nice or hop on the sight seeing buses. It's a great city and beautiful depending on what time of year you go (the cherry blossoms are gorgeous).. don't waste time riding the metro - it will put a damper on the trip...splurge and see the city how it should be seen....

No! You'll waste too much time on the subway. If you'll be there over a weekend, you'll find hotel rates are usually cheaper than weekdays. Try the Hyatt on Capitol Hill. It's a nice hotel and the location is fine for walking to all the museums and monuments on the mall.

You need to remember the price of parking also if you are on a budget in Washington. Some hotels in the city charge as much as $20.00 to $30.00 a day to park.
We are planning a trip in May and are staying in Alexandria, VA. The hotel is much cheaper and offers free shuttle to a metro station and offers free parking.

It would certainly be cheaper. I would recommend staying somewhere in Virginia, and taking the Metro in. I've done that on several trips to DC and it always works pretty well.

Definitely!!! I went a couple of years ago and it is much cheaper to stay outside of the city. If you want to be a little adventurous, check out the hostiles in the area, they can be fun. Also, check out www.dc.gov for some travel tips. Have fun!!
