I found out this past week a friend had taken his own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Yes, we are local but what makes people want to target the bridge? Someone told me this past weekend to watch the movie The Bridge. Its on this exact topic.

I live in the San Mateo County area of Calif. and am interested in "exploring" new places. Got some vacation time coming up this month and would like to find one or more small towns in Calif. to visit. I've already seen Cambria, San Simeon, Montery, San Luis Obisbo, Morro Bay and Cayucos, Ca.
Thanks for any more ideas!!

I'm taking a job based in San Francisco but I will need relatively easy access to SFO on a weekly basis (it's a field-based travel job). I will have a home office so anywhere in the Bay Area is a possibility. I'm 29 years old, single, and would like to live in a safe, clean area with cost of living being a factor but not a major one. Could be in the City but not necessarily. Grocery stores, bars, restaurants, good broadband speeds, public transport access, bike-friendly and a warm micro-climate are all factors that I am looking at. I'm used to the open, planned developments of Dallas so that might sway me if such a places exists. If anyone has suggestions then please go nuts!

I really have two questions, masked as one.

1) I'm taking a road trip with my mother, father and sister. It's going to be a long driving trip in a relatively small car, and I HATE driving. What should we bring for the long drive to pass time?

2) Our trip will take us to the San Fransisco area and several other areas along the way. Any suggestions on what to pack?

Thanks in advance!

Still looking for somewhere to relocate to where its not too hot. Im not too familiar with California but I researched a little and it seems like a nice place to live. My only problem is that I am hispanic and some people scare me when they say that not all cities welcome us. Can someone give me some info on Eureka. Is the weather really that nice? How are the schools? Are there enough jobs out there? Anything else I should know?

We are about to book a tour to Alcatraz and I keep reading on yahoo answers and google that getting the first boat is the best option - why?

I can book a combo tour which also provides a deluxe city tour and saves money this way but it is pot luck what time you head over to Alcatraz i.e. morning or afternoon.

I will be going to my cousin's wedding in Glen Ellen on Sunday, August 26th. While I am up there I would like to visit San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. I was considering staying in San Francisco but the hotels are so expensive!! Does anyone know a good city to stay in (within 30 minutes of Glen Ellen) that is not too far from San Francisco and Half Moon Bay (more than an hour)? The most important thing for us to be is near Glen Ellen, but I also need to stay in a city that is affordable. I definately don't want to stay in a bad area...but definately...the cheaper the better. Do any of you have any ideas?
