Still looking for somewhere to relocate to where its not too hot. Im not too familiar with California but I researched a little and it seems like a nice place to live. My only problem is that I am hispanic and some people scare me when they say that not all cities welcome us. Can someone give me some info on Eureka. Is the weather really that nice? How are the schools? Are there enough jobs out there? Anything else I should know?

It won't matter that you are hispanic at all; most Californian's are pretty accepting and open minded, especially to hispanics since there are so many and they are part of our culture. As long as you speak english and act like an american no one really cares what color you are; I'm hispanic and have never felt any racism or discrimination in my adult life here. The only hispanics people really have a problem with are illegals and little cholo gangbangers, but as long as you are an upstanding american no one cares how dark your skin is. Even though it's all small towns up there the whole Northern CA coast is pretty liberal.

I wouldn't call the weather nice at all but that depends on your preference I guess. It's very cool and cloudy overall. The warmest temperature ever recorded in Eureka was 87 degrees so it never gets hot there. It's usually in the 50's and 60's the entire year during the day. It rains A LOT during winter and gets lots of fog throughout the year. So if you like cool weather it's defiantely the place to go and if you want a little heat every now and then you don't have to head that far inland at all before it's much sunnier and warmer.

I don't think the schools are bad; just typical small town schools. It's pretty remote and not many people move there so I don't think the job market is robust but it's not really depressed either. You're just not going to have a lot to choose from and the pay won't be as high compared to the Bay Area but there are jobs there.

Eureka is a decent sized city so it's not too small but not big either and most of what you need you can get in that town. But it's very remote and far from SF or any large cities. So if like a small city, cool weather, and laidback lifestyle it's a good place for that.

My husband's lived in CA for 17+ years. He says it's rainy (you don't ask if it's going to rain, but WHEN it will rain", foggy, and with cool temps even in the summer. He says it's very beautiful though. You won't have a problem with your ethnicity in CA. Over half the population is Hispanic too. As far as jobs, try googling for a newspaper in Eureka that you can read online and get a feel for the cost of housing and the job market. That's what I did when I was planning to move here.

Good luck, it's really nice here!

Rainy in winter. Cool and foggy in summer.
