is there a certain time when the sky is expected to be clear of fog?

Fog comes in and out all year round, but moves thru during the day or evening - so you'd be able to see the GG part of any day. Local weather can be pulled up on the 'net, and http://www.sfgate.com has cameras posted around with views taken periodically during the day so you can get an idea of seasonal variations.

In the fog, the GG is awesome...the towers are visible thru the fogbank and it's like the towers of an imaginary kingdom floating there. I've seen it at every time of year and around the clock and have never been disappointed. Not sure if they still allow pedestrians to walk across [this changes from time to time, so check first] but that's definitely THE way to get the full impact of its massive size and beautiful setting.

i agree with constantreader. I actually like the GG most all times of the year fog or no fog. it is less foggy usually in the winter to early spring. Summer is usually the foggiest. we always have problems on 4th of july with the fog and fireworks. April and May are usually quite clear. KFOG radio did their Kaboom concert/fireworks on May 12 and it was absolutely perfect and clear.

For a beautiful view of the bridge. Especially when the fog is coming in. Try Scomas restaurant. Also has excellent food!
