Depends on what part. 1st ave to 22nd ave is fine, 23rd through High street isn't so bad. Beyond high street gets rough up to the San Leandro city limits. btw, it's called International Blvd. now in Oakland.

East 14th st has always been a safe place to go. It has always had some of the best food in the Bay Area. As Asians replace Latins the area has an ever more international feel. Bart stations are conveniently located. The buses are on time. It is as clean as anywhere else. People are civil. What do you want?

Still iffy if you try and go there at night - not so bad during the day. Oakland's doing a lot of redevelopment but they're not there yet.

Certain sections of it are still dangerous. There's been a rash of murders in the past few weeks.
