Wow...I used to live in the Bay Area, and there's so much you can do for very little money! BUT let me tell you as a warning NEVER refer to San Francisco as San Fran, or Frisco...City Dwellers get really out of joint if you call the "City" anything BUT the "CITY" or San Francisco.
Now...please be sure to go to Golden Gate Park...it's really cheap. AND check what time area's close...if you head off to the Japanese Gardens right before closing, you can wander for better than an hour or so...and it's an amazing park.
There are a ton of other great things to do in the park...and it's all so beautiful.
Take the BART as many places as possible and save money...it's a walking city. Great food to be found in small establishments in the different neighborhoods. China town is cool, but pricey...better Chinese food is located in the "avenues". Great food and people watching in the Haight District. Great window shopping "Union Square".
Go over to Berkely to hang with college crowds...
Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Just cross the bridge into Marin. Go up into the hills and bounce around the historic sites, and take in the incredible scenery. You can spend an entire day doing this, without spending a cent. Then there is Fisherman's Wharf. Again, just bang around taking in the sites. Ghiradelli Square. Take a trolley ride. Go to the Buena Vista for an original Irish Coffee.
San Francisco is the most wonderful city on the planet. You'll find something.

Twin peaks is beautiful. Great view of the city from there. Go to Fisherman's Wharf and have the shrimp sold by the street side vendors. It's fresh as can be. You can also tour a WWII submarine at the Wharf if you're into that kind of thing. Walking on the Golden Gate Bridge is also fun. Just north of the city is Muir Woods which has some nice tall Redwoods to look at.

If you want to stay in the city then I would recommend Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 one day and Golden Gate Park another day. You would also want to visit Chinatown and the Metreon.
As a native San Franciscan these are inexpensive places to visit, some are free. I also like the San Francisco Zoo.

You HAVE to go to Garidellies (I'm not sure how to spell it). It's an ice cream shop with the BEST BEST BEST hot fudge sundaes. Also, visit Peir 39 and China Town. Have fun!
