OK well Im not sure if college is for me, but Im giving it 1 semester and if its not Im moving from Alabama to San Francisco and becoming a Fire Fighter until Im 21 and old enough to be a Police Officer.

I have always wanted to live their. Anyways I was going to ask these questions for alittle help:

1) What would be a suggested amount of money to save to get my by for a couple of months?

2) Would it be easy to get a job for a fire dept in San Francisco?

3) I kinda want the "Classical" San Francisco Apt. but if I cant have that I atleast want to stay somewhere clean and with a good view. Any suggestions??

4) I have a car Mitisubishi Lancer 05 but I was thinking about selling it since Ive been told that parking is hell is this a good idea?? I need to be able to get to the Fire Dept...

Thanks

First of all housing is very expensive. Even to rent a decent room will cost you at least $800-1000 per month. Parking is the pits. Plus you might have to pay to park in a secure area. Get a motorcycle or scooter. Getting a job in SF Fire Dept? Thats a tough one. Can it be done? Sure. You better have alot of determination because it won't be easy. Visit every fire station and bring treats and pick peoples brains, Especially the new hires/probies. Good Luck!

I'd stay in college if I were you ! San Francisco is NOT a cheap place to live. Just a room will cost you at least $800. And that's sharing a place with someone else.
And no,it's not easy to get a job with the fire or police departments ! And being from out of state will make it all the harder. You'd have to go to school here as well.
Suggestions ? Go to college there for at least two years. Then if you still want to move here, do some deeper research BEFORE moving.

From the SFFD website:
Entry-level H-2 Firefighter is not currently open for filing. The Fire Department does not anticipate any openings for H-2 Firefighter in the near future.

Apartments are very expensive.

It might be a better idea to get a scooter or motorcycle.

Go to realtor.com you will find the prices in Frisco are somewhere near the space station.
Unless you make a few million a year forget living in the city. Look at cities on the outer fringe, Marin county is only for the elite too, so head south towards Daly City or San Bruno, east to Oakland, further out towards Vallejo. I am sure you get in touch with any city department at http://www.jobaps.com/sf/sup/images/default.asp

You can get by in Frisco without a car. Just live close to the BART line.

I'd say that you need about 10k to live for 2 months without a job (all expenses, plus setting up new apartment). Go to thrift stores to get a couch, table, bed, etc.
