I really have two questions, masked as one.
1) I'm taking a road trip with my mother, father and sister. It's going to be a long driving trip in a relatively small car, and I HATE driving. What should we bring for the long drive to pass time?
2) Our trip will take us to the San Fransisco area and several other areas along the way. Any suggestions on what to pack?
Thanks in advance!

Cameras and pictures are no concern. My dad is a photographer and I'm bringing my video camera, so we're covered there.
Also, what is the weather like? I think we're near Union Square, so I'm not bringing too much, but we're also staying at this other ranch place on the way home. I have no clue what to pack for that.

if you are staying IN SF near union square, please be aware that the city is not always warm in the summer time. The fog does roll in and is usually quite chilly. You maybe able to get away with shorts in the day time, but over night can get into 40s and 50s by sundown.
layers is your best bet for clothing. avg. temp in august high is only 72 and low is 56. oddly enough september is the warmest month of the year.

For the long car ride, I would suggest playing the alphabet game. While passing billboards and different signs, try and find a word that starts with A and then B and so,all the way up to Z. You can't use the same word twice. Who ever finishes first, wins. I like that game because you learn what stores and businesses are in the area your passing. Take a book or how about ear phones. Take a journal and write down about your trip. The journal book will be great memories for you in the future. Now, if your going to be in San Francisco, I would suggest to bring some warm clothing. Bring a jacket because at night it gets real cold and could be windy. During the Day, It can get cool too.The sun should keep your warm, but bring a light sweater in case you get to cold. Maybe bring a pair of shorts just in case. San Fransisco is so unpredictable. Have fun and an open mind, that's the important thing.

CDs or cassettes, whichever your sound system uses. a small cooler for water, juice and soft drinks. Snacks that won't melt in a hot/warm car-- cookies, chips, bananas, etc. Use soft side luggage for better use of your trunk space. Pack at least one sweater or sweatshirt. Ppl are wearing leather jackets at night in SF. Some umbrellas (small ones) might be needed. Please remember to buckle up and to drive with your headlights on even during the day. Be sure to get enough sleep (the full 8 hrs) the night before.

Ok... the most important thing is acctually to pack LESS, less is more... things like 5 or 6 books wont help... focus more on things that pass time quicker... crossword puzzles, road games, sudoku, stuff like that. Second, most people pack a ton of stuff that is heavy and useless you'll probably find yourself wanting to just look out the window more than anything. Bring a camera and stuff like that...

Sunglasses. Maps. A bed pillow for each person (to sit on, place behind back or head, etc.) with different patterned pillow covers (so they don't get switched). Bottled water and camera.
Don't hesitate to stop along the way at rest stops, fruit stands or coffee shops to stretch legs, take pictures and eat.

Victoria, if you are going to San Fransisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair.
Thank you and good day.
