I'm taking a job based in San Francisco but I will need relatively easy access to SFO on a weekly basis (it's a field-based travel job). I will have a home office so anywhere in the Bay Area is a possibility. I'm 29 years old, single, and would like to live in a safe, clean area with cost of living being a factor but not a major one. Could be in the City but not necessarily. Grocery stores, bars, restaurants, good broadband speeds, public transport access, bike-friendly and a warm micro-climate are all factors that I am looking at. I'm used to the open, planned developments of Dallas so that might sway me if such a places exists. If anyone has suggestions then please go nuts!

The above answers are all related to the other side of the bay.
If you want to stay on the same side as SFO, I would recommend San Mateo, or Foster city. they are both really close to SFO. True living in San Fran. can be expensive, this will give you a cheaper alternative. It also puts you out of the fog areas. I used to live in San Mateo for years and Foster city is just right next to it. It has all the things that you are looking for. Climate is moderate. You will still be about 20 -30 minutes away from the city, so you can still enjoy all that San Fran has to offer such as the restaurants that SF is known for and all the sights.

If you want to be warm you'll have to avoid san francisco and the peninsula. Bart goes to SFO so on the southernmost bartline you could look at south hayward, union city and fremont. I believe all 3 have housing near the bart stations. South East, dublin or pleasanton, though there are going to be service delays as they new dublin station gets built. North possibly El Cerrito, but it gets pretty fogged in too. Avoid Richmond, it probably has the worst crime rate per capita in the bay area. North east, any place between Orinda and Pittsburg bay point stations gets sunshine.
