I want something really American. Not latino influenced Miami, or French Louisiana, or filthy rich Vegas, or freezing Alaska.
I am thinking Massachusetts. It looks gorgeous in The Departed movie.

This question has 2 parts.

Anyway, I'm a student who plans to study in Drake University in Iowa starting August. First of all, considering I come from Malaysia, which is as tropical as you can get, what are the things which I should get to prepare myself for the winter? Should I buy autumn clothing in Malaysia first and then get winter stuff in Iowa, because I'm not sure about the price of winter clothing in Iowa and the temperature. Plus I've never really experienced winter before.

Secondly, I don't intend to spend every waking moment studying. So, are there any interesting things in Iowa (and neighbouring states) that maybe I should check out? Any attractions of note?

Thanks.

P.S. If you're a student in Drake, hello. : )

I'm from Singapore and will be visiting Anaheim, CA with my family (me, dh & 2 kids age 3 & 6). We'll be spending 8 nights there (bought the 5-day Disneyland park hopper tix) and left with 3 days of shopping and sight-seeing. And on one of those days, me & dh plans to drive up to Dessert Hills Premium Outlets and some other outlets there. We do not know how the traffic will be like & we dunno how long it'll take us to finish our outlets shopping spree. Just in case we finish between 7-8pm, is it safe to drive back to Anaheim? And any idea how long the journey will take?

Thanks in advance for all your answers :)

I presently live in Cleveland OH. But am considering a move out west. I don't want to live in California because the cost of living is outrageous, among other things. I don't want to live deep in the Mojave Desert, where the daytime highs are 110F.
Las Vegas is a great place to visit, but I'm sure it's loaded with rif raf. Reno "statistically speaking" seems like a good place. It's a 24 hour city, located in a beautiful part of the state. It does get cold in the Winter, but I'm used to it. The cost of living is moderate. The population is around 200,000 which means that it's not overcrowded like Las Vegas, and CA cities are. The crime rate is low, employment rate is high, and it's not far from many beautiful places, like the Pacific Coast, Sierra Nevada Mts, and Lake Tahoe. I'd like to hear from some folks who live in Reno to tell me how you like it, or don't like it, and why.

Everybody I've talked to about Eugene seems to like it, what is it about Eugene that you like? What makes it nice? Or, if you don't like it, what is it that you don't like about it?

I am looking to move to Memphis from Cleveland Ohio. I would like to know whats it like for the people who live there. I am looking into getting my foot in the door of a good salon (I'm a hairstylist). I want to do editoral work and eventually move in to doing celebrities in the music area. I am 23 years old and a girl. I like the Peabody and Uptown Apartments. Guess I just want to know if its a artsy, music spot....people my age that I can meet easily seeing that I know no onethere. Basically give me the dish on the place-what to know what I might be getting myself into? Thanks in advance
