I am looking to move to Memphis from Cleveland Ohio. I would like to know whats it like for the people who live there. I am looking into getting my foot in the door of a good salon (I'm a hairstylist). I want to do editoral work and eventually move in to doing celebrities in the music area. I am 23 years old and a girl. I like the Peabody and Uptown Apartments. Guess I just want to know if its a artsy, music spot....people my age that I can meet easily seeing that I know no onethere. Basically give me the dish on the place-what to know what I might be getting myself into? Thanks in advance

i'm not dead set on memphis, im just think im ready for a change of pace and im young...need new friends-have always loves music (can play any instrument) extremely creative....i've heard alot about nashville also.

Memphis is a great city - and full of artsy, music filled areas if you know where to look. I'd recommend looking in Midtown - especially the Cooper Young and Overton Square areas. Uptown and Downtown are also very cool and up and coming. As for salons, it really depends what you like to do. There are a lot of great salons here - Capelli in Laurelwood is always busy. Pavo and Juve are Aveda Concept Salons. There are funkier places in Midtown. People are here great and warm and friendly. Crime is about the same as any city, although for some reason life-long Memphians think it's the worst ever (maybe I have just always lived in awful cities, crime-wise). We love it here - hope you do, too.

Don't know too much about Memphis.... how about Nashville? Lots of artsy stuff here and certainly plenty of music and celebraties! I moved here 6 years ago with my 3 grown daughters (late 20's and early 30's and 3 grandkids) and we all absolutely love it here. There are tons of upscale hair salons here, reasonably priced apts., great places to eat and hang out. Anyway, just a suggestion if your heart isn't deadset on Memphis!

i have lived in memphis for 24 yrs there is some cool things here in memphis but i really dont know bout good hair salons. well as far as a artsy,music spot not really.i think that i would stay there if u r making good money.

Be careful after dark downtown Memphis, wife and 2 sisters-in law robbed at gun point right in front of our $1200 a month apartment, I would very much recommend Nashville.

not to many salons in Memphis , a lot of ancient things, the first city of the 2 kigdoms noted for the god Ptah, its where Osirus entered the underworld to become judge of the dead,the cemetry site of memphis is at Saqqara
there is quite an interesting step pyramid of Djoser also. hope you enjoy your move to Egypt as much as i have,
