I want something really American. Not latino influenced Miami, or French Louisiana, or filthy rich Vegas, or freezing Alaska.
I am thinking Massachusetts. It looks gorgeous in The Departed movie.

Washington and New York are good bets. There is plenty to see and do in both cities. Another alternative is to go to upstate New York, as it is quite prretty there. If you like jazz Chicago is a good bet.

Depends what you call "American!" I say New York is great, because really is EVERYTHING here. Influences from all over the world. Keep in mind, just about everything "American" is taken from somewhere else.

New York. Among the oldest American cities with plenty of history, especially downtown Manhattan. But again, there's everything here. There are so many things to do, places to see, people to talk to, and the weather's not too bad. Give it a shot.

What makes you think all of Las Vegas is filthy rich or that all of Alaska is freezing? I have lived in both places and like any area you will find a mix of every place from both extremes. All American is just where you look and find it.

It depends on the time of year - I find the weather can change my whole opinion of a city. For instance I would not go to Massachusetts at all in the winter. And in the summer I would go to Massachusetts' beach areas like Martha's Vineyard.

San Francisco is also really cool (plus close to Napa). Chicago is groovy. New York is amazing. LA can be fun.
