I'm from Singapore and will be visiting Anaheim, CA with my family (me, dh & 2 kids age 3 & 6). We'll be spending 8 nights there (bought the 5-day Disneyland park hopper tix) and left with 3 days of shopping and sight-seeing. And on one of those days, me & dh plans to drive up to Dessert Hills Premium Outlets and some other outlets there. We do not know how the traffic will be like & we dunno how long it'll take us to finish our outlets shopping spree. Just in case we finish between 7-8pm, is it safe to drive back to Anaheim? And any idea how long the journey will take?

Thanks in advance for all your answers :)

You will be staying & traveling in some reasonably safe areas. The only place around Disneyland that might be questionable is the city of Santa Ana, it is a sanctuary city for illegal aliens from Mexico & Central America.

The Desert Hills Outlets are 73 Mi. / 117 Km. from Disneyland. Wait until about 9:30am to avoid the heaviest traffic on your way there. You would drive North on Ca-57, North on Ca-91, east on Ca-60,& east on I-10. Desert Hills Outlets is the exit just after the truck weigh station. It is a very safe & uncrowded drive back after dark.

Right next to the Desert Hills Outlets is the Morongo Casino & Resort. They have excellant restaurants, and a 310 room hotel with rooms starting at $109 per night. If you don't want to drive back at night, perhaps you might consider staying there, and cancel one of the nights in Anaheim.

If Desert Hills is too far for you, there is another equally good outlet mall, the Ontario Mills Outlets, in Ontario, California. Enjoy your stay here in the U.S.

It is safe and the roads are well marked. You might be shocked in some areas where the roads are not lighted as well as you're used to in Singapore. The other caution is driving on the right.

This can be confusing especially at large multi-lane junctions coming off an Expressway because you haven't had to think about it for a while. Remember. keep the centre-line on your side. I tried many crutches before I figured that out. If you try to think left-or-right you can get confused. No matter where you are, even Singapore, reference to the centre line and you can't go wrong.

Other than that my suggestion would be to invest in a good map and study the route before hand. When you get back you can incorporate the section you drove, with postcards and pictures in a framed souvenir.

Have a good trip.
