Is it a good idea to book a shuttle from the airport roundtrip (i.e. from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport when leaving) ? Or... can we save money just hailin a cab?

I am planning a trip next year to WDW and I am looking into the Dining Meal plan, Anyone used this and found it worthwhile? I will be travelling with an 8 yr and 10 yr old, I'm not sure that the table service dinners are the right option for us, Im afraid kids wont have suitable menu choices, Im worried about making reservations and keeping them, and the time involved?
