New Orleans is known as the birthplace of Jazz. It was craeted by all the different cultures that fused together in New Orleans. New Orleans had been a music center long before Jazz, just like any large city. At one time New Orleans was the 5th largest city in the country. It's been home to Jazz greats, the most notable of which being Louis Armstrong. More recently Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr. have been huge Jazz names out of the big easy.

Do a search on "Storyville." This historical district of New Orleans was where most of the Jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong got their starts, and was credited for expanding jazz to tourists in New Orleans at the time.

It no longer exists, though. It was torn down to make way for the Iberville Housing Development.
