Is it a good idea to book a shuttle from the airport roundtrip (i.e. from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport when leaving) ? Or... can we save money just hailin a cab?

Check with your hotel: they may have a free shuttle to and from the airport! But you can also click on this to link to get lots of info to compare taxi/shuttles/car rental/buses/ etc.:

Cab with a tip will cost less if there's 2 or 3 people sharing as the shuttle is a per person thing. The shuttle may take up to a half hour to come round to the pickup point and that's aggravating if you see cabs scooting in and out every two minutes. If you have a group of 4 or 6 , take the limo. It costs about $60. each way so $10 - $15. a person and you arrive in style for same cost as damn shuttle.

"Roaddogg" gave you some great advice about the CAT bus - Just make sure you catch the #109 Maryland Pkwy "North" bus, the #109 South will take you to the SSTT(South Strip Transfer Terminal)>you could go to the SSTT on the #109 S if you want to catch the Deuce(strip) bus with one less transfer.

To catch the bus>you can board the bus if you travel light>the bus will allow the same luggage as the airlines will allow you to carry on & maybe slightly more if you don't get absurd. Just before you get to the baggage claim area at McCarran, on your right will be an escalator down with this sign overhead "Ground Level Transportation 0" go down, then out the doors, the bus stop is on your right, the bus stops about every 10 minutes. If you arrive at the AP during a busy time there is often an hour wait for a cab, at very busy times I know of people waiting more than 2 hours.

The site that "Galaxiquestar" provided you is a great site to learn about the transportaion options in LV.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year, for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We use the bus 99% of the time. If we use a cab it's because we have a very early flight home. We have used the "pay" shuttles twice, we should have learned our lesson after the first time. We thought maybe it was just a bad experience the first time, it wasn't.

Both "Roaddogg" & "Galaxiquestar" gave you great advice, I'm not trying to steal their thunder> I just like to beat a dead horse. :)<

Later: "hail a cab, not much of a difference" >We pay $2.50($1.25 each) from McCarran to downtown on the CAT, we are at Main Street Station & checked in, while the "cab hailer" is still waiting in line at the airport and they will pay $25-$30 for the privilege.

Shuttle is the best for the money...but...i suggest a limo...its not much more than a cab and if you're a group then this is worth it and more stylish than a cab/shuttle. Book in advance and while your friends are tryng to get a cab/ shuttle..your limo will pull up...You'll be the star for the rest of the trip!

ps.some hotels can even check you in at the airport..more time for fun!
Good Luck!

Neither; the airport in Las Vegas is easily served by the city's great public transit system! The CAT bus as it's known provides two routes directly from the airport to Downtown #108 & 109 as well as simple connections to most parts of the city, and best of all a 24 hour pass is only $2.50!

I would just grab the cab. The shuttle will take forever because they stop at several hotels. It's not that expensive to just take a cab to the strip.

Twice we took the shuttle and it was great. We go to our hotel in comfort. It was a dependable to get us back to the airport. And it was much cheaper than a taxi.

A shuttle would be cheaper but not by a lot. However a shuttle takes more time waiting for it. Time = money...your call.

I would just hail a cab..they are everywhere and you won't have to worry about a set schedule..not much of a price difference that would turely matter
