Around the southern tip of South America also known as Cape Horn. It was a very dangerous trip, especially at the part where the Pacific meets the Atlantic. The currents there are very rough and many ships sank.

thats it.........round Cape Horn.....about 14,000 miles.....

thats why digging Panama was so important and worth the cost and lives....
