United States - November 2006

Well, my children all have plans for the Thanksgiving holiday, therefore, I will not have any plans. So I have decided to take a trip to Washington DC for the day. I will be traveling by train to arrive and depart for the trip. My questions are... will most things be open for this holiday? Will the bus and rail systems be moving about? Mostly everything that I want to see is outside and I do not plan on eating nor shopping. I am in hopes that I can pull off this trip for around $140.00 with the round trip train travel costing $128.00. I hitch hiked across the US when I was 16 so I know how to go places with out spending a lot of money and yet still having a blast. So any ideas you may have that you would like to pass on would be great. I will have 7 hours and 45 minutes to do everything I can. I am not beyond eating somewhere that will not cost an arm or leg but close enough I can walk from the memorials.

I am outside of USA.
Plz tell me what is the COMPLETE number which I should dial to talk to a friend in, say, Texas?
For example the number is (817) 123-4567.

Now I suppose 817 is Texas code. While other nos. are person's individual no. What does '-' mean after 3rd number?

Plz tell as I am not acquainted with American style of writing phone nos.

My husband and I need a vacation!! We both have the 4 day weekend off for Thanksgiving and want to take a roadtrip. Last Thanksgiving we went to New York and we've spent a lot of time in Louisianna helping out after the hurricane so those two are both out. I'm trying to find a way to go home for Thanksgiving and I live in Minneapolis MN. My home is in Appleton, MN. I'm just trying to find a bus or something that will get me close to any city or town by Appleton so I can have someone pick me up from there.

Once upon a time I watched a TV program & it had a list of interesting places to see, I think mostly in the USA. There's one that sticks in my head. It was a restaurant that had HUGE hamburgers & you could be in a contest to see if you or a group of people could finish it in like 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the restaurant or the state or place that it was in. Do you know? If not, me & my husband plan to visit every state eventually. If you have done any traveling or you live in a certain state, could you tell me your experiences & what you've done & the places you've visited while in whichever state?
