Most are familiar with the U.S.'s history of bloodshed around the world from Iraq to Vietnam to Chile to Nicaragua.. but even more alarming is the high rate of violence amongst themselves.

The per capita murder rate in the US is staggeringly, almost three time that of the rest of the Western World... a rate they have the dubious distinction of sharing with the likes of Georgia and Uruguay... (SOURCE: Seventh United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems - U.N Office on Drugs and Crime, Centre for International Crime Prevention http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita). At .042 / thousand within the US, the next highest western nation's murder rate is France at .017 / thousand.

How is it that supposed world leader is so out of step with its peers?

Does the United States have any real moral authority on the world stage when their own population is so disfunctional?

I'm going to be going to New Orleans to do the tourist thing starting on the 31st, and coming back the 4th. I'm looking for things to do.

I'm 19, and have never been before. I know that I'm going to the art museum, the zoo, aquarium, and the WW2 museum, but I'm not sure what else to do with my time. Especially at night, since I'm not 21 and I'm not really into the club scene.

I've looked on the main sites about New Orleans, and the ones specifically for tourists, but I can't seem to find anything besides what I mentioned.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I should see and do (money is no object) while I'm there?

Thanks mucho!

I am looking to travel at the end of September on my first trip to Charleston. As i've never been there, I would like opinions on either B&B's or Historic Inns in the historic area or near the waterfront. Also any hints on what to do while there would be great as well. I love history and would probably stick with the antebellum homes in the area.

I am staying at a hotel in honolulu and we are debating whether or not we will need a car, why we are deciding against is because it will be so expensive because neither of us are over 25 so they will tack on an extra 25 a day! How is the public transit over there? About how much would we expect to pay for buses and taxis??

It is soooooooooooooooooooo expensive there. I was curious to how the rent was for the 5 boroughs. My god its outrageous. $1500.00 a month for a one bedroom apartment thats a mortgage for a 4 bedroom house in chicago. the only apartment complex i found reasonable was this place called Parkchester in the bronx. It was $800.00 a month for a one bedroom with all utilites included.

Michigan has a lot of pot holes. You can't see them comming because it's hard to tell where they are, especially at night. They cause a lot of unecessary damage. Who else thinks there should be a law in patching pot holes up?
